Matlab Serial Port Timeout?
I'm working on a lab project called virtual digital oscilloscope. The hardware consists of an ATMega32 AVR and a MAX232 serving as the translator between the AVR and PC serial port.The AVR is programmed to constantly read one of it's ADC channels and send it via its built-in USART on the serial port.on the other side of story the serial port is read in matlab using serial object ,fprintf and fscanf functions.I've been unable to read a single byte from the port due to "Operation Timeout"and the returned character is a space( ' ' ).Any ideas or solutions on how to configure the hardware or software to make it work?!
Because you didn't give full error or matlab code it is quite hard to be sure:
-Use fread instad of fscanf, it is better for debugging (it is more simple)
-Check if you have right baudrate and that there is not very big difference between theoretic baudrate and actual baudrate used by AVR (test different baudrates).
-You should probably use some other software to debug these kind of issues. I don't remember what exact software I used in windows but it was previously shipped with old windows but works perfectly even in Vista. In unix you can use program 'screen':
screen /dev/ttyUSB1 9600 vt100
