Royal Doulton announces the international launch of the 100 Years of Royal Albert collection, celebrating a century of English craftsmanship through ten patterns representing design trends of each decade of the 20th century. Royal Albert's success dates back to the late 1800's, and the new collection celebrates the brand's vitality, longevity and rich design history. The collection features all bone china with 22 karat gold accents on teacups, saucers, plates, mugs, teapots, creamers, sugar bowls and figurines. Every pattern included in the collection captures the true historical design statements and trends of each time period.
As it embarks on a new century of fine china design, Royal Albert honors the artistic achievements of the one it has so faithfully chronicled with this stunning 100 Years of Royal Albert tribute collection. Employing classic shapes and delicate floral motifs, the 10-part series, which includes teaware, figurines, and brooches, recalls major British historical events and style trends from each decade of the 21st century. Inspiration for the series came from previous Royal Albert designs and its archive pattern books. This 10-piece teacup and saucer set includes the patterns from 1900 to 1940. Crafted of bone china with lustrous 22-karat gold trim, the five pairs all share the same shape for a highly coordinated look at the table while showcasing the special beauty of each decade's design. For instance, set the dark, ornate 1910 Duchess next to the simple, fresh 1930 Polka Rose for an unexpected combination that delights the senses. Royal Albert's signature roses provide a common theme that ties the styles together. Each piece has a commemorative backstamp, and the set comes packaged in a presentation-style pink and burgundy hatbox with illustrations of all the patterns. The china is dishwasher-safe and carries a two-year warranty. --Kara Karll

BEATLES THE WITH THE BEATLES (EDICION LIMITADA)
They still had plenty of covers to fill out the running time, but the Lennon-McCartney writing team was gathering steam and beginning to knock out pop classics as if they were pulling them out of thin air. "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Be your Man" come from this record, issued hurriedly to capitalize on English Beatlemania. But even when they were laying into some classic Chuck Berry, by this time the Beatles had acquired a unique sound in the blend of John's and Paul's voices, while George was coming on by leaps and bounds as a guitar player. While not absolutely essential, as a snapshot of a band in a place and time, With the Beatles is good for a smile. --Chris Nickson

BEATLES THE PAST MASTERS (EDICION LIMITADA) (2 CDS)
Although they were probably the band that most transformed rock from a singles medium to an album-oriented form, the Beatles also released many singles and EP tracks that never made it onto albums. In the U.S., Capitol turned the group's early LPs, through Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, into compilations, more or less, throwing the hit singles onto the vinyl to augment the album tracks. When the label later released the U.K. albums on CD, it posed a problem: What to do with the non-LP singles? Past Masters, Volume 1 compiles 18 of those singles, including some of their best-known tracks, running from "Love Me Do," "She Love You," "I Want to Hold Your Hand," and "This Boy" to "I Feel Fine" and Paul's homage to Little Richard, "I'm Down." Essential stuff. --Bill Holdship

Whether or not you can sympathize with its fascistic-vigilante approach to law enforcement, Dirty Harry (directed by star Clint Eastwood's longtime friend and directorial mentor, Don Siegel) is one hell of a cop thriller. The movie makes evocative use of its San Francisco locations as cop Harry Callahan (Eastwood) tracks the elusive "Scorpio killer" who has been terrorizing the city by the Bay. As the psychopath's trail grows hotter, Harry becomes increasingly impatient and intolerant of the frustrating obstacles (departmental red tape, individuals' civil rights) that he feels are keeping him from doing his job. A characteristically taut and tense piece of filmmaking from Siegel (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Shootist, Escape from Alcatraz), it also remains a fascinating slice of American pop culture. It was a big hit (followed by four sequels) that obviously reflected--or exploited--the almost obsessive or paranoid fears and frustrations many Americans felt about crime in the streets. At a time when "law and order" was a familiar slogan for political candidates, Harry Callahan may have represented neither, but from his point of view his job was simple: stop criminals. To him that end justified any means he deemed necessary. --Jim Emerson

Let your imagination take flight with one of the most wonderful family films of all time! Dick Van Dyke will take you on an incredible ride in an extraordinary car called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Experience this timeless Oscar®-nominated classic in an all-new definitive Special Edition that boasts an array of extras as magical as the film itself.System Requirements: Running Time 145 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: CHILDREN/FAMILY Rating: G UPC: 027616898159 Manufacturer No: 1005540
This 1968 kiddie-car caper is flawed but solid family fare. It retains a quaint charm while some of the songs--including the title tune--are quite hummable. A huge plus is Dick Van Dyke, who is extremely appealing as an eccentric inventor around the turn of the century. With nimble fingers and a unique way of looking at the world, he invents for his children a magic car that floats and flies. Or does he? The special effects are tame by today's standards, and the film is about 20 minutes too long--but its enthusiasm charms. The script was cowritten by Roald Dahl and based on the novel by Ian Fleming, best known for his James Bond adventures. --Rochelle O'Gorman

Collecting Vintage Guitars As an Investment Strategy
Every guitar player around wants to pick up a fine vintage instrument like those played by the legends. However, these days there are more than just musicians looking for masterpiece instruments from the 1930s through the early 1970s.
Vintage guitars are a great investment that only increases in value. You might be asking yourself whether a guitar can really be a good investment. After all, to the untrained eye, most guitars are the same. However, the right guitar can be worth a lot to a collector. Guitars that have been owned by celebrities, or which are rare or unusual, can command very high prices indeed. If you're worried about getting a return on your money, don't be.
Vintage guitars have consistently performed with more stability than the stock market. There are a number of reasons that collecting vintage guitars is an excellent strategy. For one, they're more tangible than a stock or bond. They give you an attractive piece to display, and are fun to collect, too. Guitars also don't lose value over time. In fact, it's just the opposite - vintage guitars consistently gain value as they get older, as long as you take the time to keep them in good condition. They're also usually superior instruments.
If you're a musician as well as an investor, you'll appreciate the superior action and tone of a real vintage instrument. The most popular vintage guitar with collectors is probably the Gibson Les Paul. Gibson invented the modern electric guitar, and in the 1960s, the Les Paul was one of the best instruments available. While these are still made today, they don't stand up to the quality of older models, which are made of oak, mahogany, and other fine materials. You can even find examples with mother of pearl and gold inlays! Another brand you'll probably recognize is Fender. The Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Thunderbird are all great models that remain favorites. The best were made in the 1950s and 1960s. After that, Fender guitars are less valuable. Learn about the guitars that carry the best value before you buy, so you'll be able to make a smart decision. CF Martin is yet another of the great vintage guitar brands. These amazing acoustic instruments are among the finest, and have craftsmanship that can't be matched. Martin invented the use of the X-bracing system in acoustics. That means that his instruments lasted for far longer than competitors'. Some of the original Martin guitars are now nearly a hundred years old. Collectible CF Martin guitars are valuable up through the 1960s models. Guild guitars are great vintage instruments, too, but they're a lot less famous. That's because the company only did business for about twenty-five years before Fender bought it in the 1990s. Older Guild instruments are very rare, and considered on par with Martin guitars of the same period. Any of these instruments would be a great investment piece for musicians, or anyone who loves music. Even if you just like the look of a beautiful old guitar, think about purchasing a vintage one.
You'll be surprised at what a good investment it could turn out to be. If you are interest in getting started collecting vintage guitars for fun and profit or even if you have been doing so for years and wish to add to your collection, Bob's Vintage Guitars is a website that you should visit. It has a lot of useful information about vintage guitars and also a great selection of vintage guitars for sale.
