Wabash Valley Farms 25008 Whirley-Pop Stovetop Popcorn Popper List Price: $29.98 Sale Price: $15.95 |
|
There's more to going to the movies than seeing the movie itself - it's the popcorn! Now, with the Whirley Pop Popcorn Maker, you can make fluffy, delicious popcorn just like you get at the theater. The stay-cool hardwood handle turns the stainless steel paddle inside, preventing scorching and burning, and making certain every kernel pops up like it should. The steam vents on top allow moisture to escape so the popcorn is always light and tender. Much quicker than microwaving, the popper makes up to 6 quarts and comes with a 25 year warranty. Also included with the popper is 1 popcorn packets (each one making up to 6 quarts) and "secret ingredient" flavoring packets that give the popcorn that movie-popcorn taste. The popper also comes with a recipe book for more popcorn flavor ideas.Pan is made of aluminum and the lid is made of stainless steel and aluminum. Face it, sometimes the best thing about going out to a movie is the popcorn, those big plump kernels that always seem so much better than what you pop at home. But this simple stovetop popper changes all that. It really does make awesome, fresh-popped corn that might make you start renting videos instead. The sturdy aluminum pan has a clip-on lid with a stay-cool wooden handle. A turn crank on the handle spins the key element: the stainless steel stirring system that keeps the corn moving across the bottom of the pan, for even heat and oil distribution, ensuring the best popping results. The lid has steam vents, to help keep the popcorn dry and crisp. The enclosed booklet is a wonderful resource, with not only clear and detailed instructions, but also dozens of recipes and popcorn history and lore. These are folks who really do know their popcorn, and the results are outstanding. --Cynthia Nims |

Looney Tunes: Golden Collection, Vol. 1 List Price: $64.92 Sale Price: $35.07 |

What's up, Doc? Well, how about a four-disc boxed set packed with 56 of the funniest cartoons in Warner Bros. history? Get ready to laugh yourself silly with salutes to Bugs Bunny ("Baseball Bugs," "Long-Haired Hare," "Wabbit Twouble," "The Rabbit of Seville," and more); Daffy Duck and Porky Pig ("Duck Amuck," "Dough for the Do-Do," "Scaredy Cat," "Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2th Century," and more); and other toon faves ("Elmer's Candid Camera," "Fast and Furry-ous," "For Scent-imental Reasons," "Speedy Gonzales," "The Foghorn Leghorn," "Devil May Hare," and more). 6 3/4 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital mono, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; audio commentary; documentaries; featurette; more. NOTE: This set includes all 28 shorts from "Premiere Collection, Vol. 1." For years, animation buffs have waited impatiently for the Warner Bros. cartoons to appear on DVD. The Warner shorts never commanded the budgets and prestige of the Disney and MGM films, and won fewer Oscars than they deserved. But decades after the best ones were created, they remain the quintessential Hollywood cartoons: brash, fast-paced, aggressively funny and uniquely American. Virtually everyone in the U.S. under the age of 60 grew up on these films, in theaters and on TV. The 56 cartoons in the set (out of a studio output of over 1,000) were transferred from good prints--which means the viewer can see dust, scratches, and occasional mistakes by the cel painters. The films are all presented uncut, in defiance of the killjoys who have insisted on censoring alleged "violence" in the versions shown on television. Warner Bros. is obviously testing consumer response with this set. Although the erratic selection includes many classics, purists will argue (correctly) that it offers neither a fair representation of the directors' oeuvres, nor anything approaching a coherent history of the characters or studio style. (Nearly half the films were directed by Chuck Jones; only three are by Bob Clampett, and there's nothing by Tex Avery or Frank Tashlin.) But it seems petty to carp about omissions and biases when the discs offer excellent, uncensored prints of some of the funniest films ever made in the U.S.--or anywhere else. (Rated G, suitable for all ages: cartoon violence) --Charles Solomon |

Swiss Family Robinson [VHS] List Price: $19.99 Sale Price: $4.81 |
|
The Disney touch is all over this grand, colorful version of the Johann Wyss adventure of a European family set off for the new world of New Guinea. The film opens on a ship jostled and torn by a raging storm while a family struggles to make it through alive. Tossed into a reef near a deserted tropical island, father John Mills takes charge and the family soon turns their island prison into a veritable paradise. Their multilevel tree house, built in record time, is complete with running water and a working pipe organ scavenged from the ship, while their grand yard is abloom in English roses. As a tale of hardship and pioneer pluck, the tale is pure fantasy, but as entertainment it's energetic and appealing. The island is impossibly populated by ostriches, zebras, lions, and elephants, a private zoo that delights the youngest boy and offers plenty of comic relief. The two older brothers discover even wilder life when they rescue the prisoner of oriental pirates (led by hard-bitten Sessue Hayakawa). There's little real danger anywhere in the film--even the climactic battle with the pirates is a cartoonish affair, with coconut bombs and nonlethal booby traps, until the final desperate, deadly moments. Hardly a faithful adaptation of the novel, but a lush, beautifully photographed film and an entertaining adventure safe for all ages. Dorothy McGuire costars as the proper, worry-prone mother. (Ages 5 and older) --Sean Axmaker |

Planet Earth: The Complete BBC Series List Price: $79.98 Sale Price: $19.50 |
|
As of its release in early 2007, Planet Earth is quite simply the greatest nature/wildlife series ever produced. Following the similarly monumental achievement of The Blue Planet: Seas of Life, this astonishing 11-part BBC series is brilliantly narrated by Sir David Attenborough and sensibly organized so that each 50-minute episode covers a specific geographical region and/or wildlife habitat (mountains, caves, deserts, shallow seas, seasonal forests, etc.) until the entire planet has been magnificently represented by the most astonishing sights and sounds you'll ever experience from the comforts of home. The premiere episode, "From Pole to Pole," serves as a primer for things to come, placing the entire series in proper context and giving a general overview of what to expect from each individual episode. Without being overtly political, the series maintains a consistent and subtle emphasis on the urgent need for ongoing conservation, best illustrated by the plight of polar bears whose very behavior is changing (to accommodate life-threatening changes in their fast-melting habitat) in the wake of global warming--a phenomenon that this series appropriately presents as scientific fact. With this harsh reality as subtext, the series proceeds to accentuate the positive, delivering a seemingly endless variety of natural wonders, from the spectacular mating displays of New Guinea's various birds of paradise to a rare encounter with Siberia's nearly-extinct Amur Leopards, of which only 30 remain in the wild. That's just a hint of the marvels on display. Accompanied by majestic orchestral scores by George Fenton, every episode is packed with images so beautiful or so forcefully impressive (and so perfectly photographed by the BBC's tenacious high-definition camera crews) that you'll be rendered speechless by the splendor of it all. You'll see a seal struggling to out-maneuver a Great White Shark; swimming macaques in the Ganges delta; massive flocks of snow geese numbering in the hundreds of thousands; an awesome night-vision sequence of lions attacking an elephant; the Colugo (or "flying lemur"--not really a lemur!) of the Philippines; a hunting alliance of fish and snakes on Indonesia's magnificent coral reef; the bioluminescent "vampire squid" of the deep oceans... these are just a few of countless highlights, masterfully filmed from every conceivable angle, with frequent use of super-slow-motion and amazing motion-controlled time-lapse cinematography, and narrated by Attenborough with his trademark combination of observational wit and informative authority. The result is a hugely entertaining series that doesn't flinch from the predatory realities of nature (death is a constant presence, without being off-putting), and each episode ends with 10-minute "Planet Earth Diaries" (exclusive to this DVD set) that cover a specific aspect of production, like "Diving with Pirahnas" or "Into the Abyss" (the latter showing the rigors of filming the planet's most spectacular caves, including the last filming ever officially permitted in the "Chandelier Ballroom," a crystal-encrusted cavern found over a mile deep in New Mexico's treacherous Lechuguilla, the deepest cave in the continental United States.) With so many of Earth's natural wonders on display, it's only fitting that the final DVD in this five-disc set is devoted to Planet Earth: The Future, a separate three-part series in which a global array of experts is assembled to discuss issues of conservation, protection of delicate ecosystems, and the socio-economic benefits of understanding nature as a commodity that returns trillions of dollars in value at no cost to Earth's human population. At a time when the multiple threats of global warming should be obvious to all, let's give Sir David the last word, from the closing of Planet Earth's final episode: "We can now destroy or we can cherish--the choice is ours." --Jeff Shannon Stills from Planet Earth (click for larger image) With an unprecedented production budget of $25 million and from the makers of Blue Planet: Seas of Life comes the epic story of life on Earth. Five years in production over 2000 days in the field using 40 cameramen filming across 200 locations shot entirely in high definition this is the ultimate portrait of our planet. A stunning television experience that captures rare action impossible locations and intimate moments with our planet's best-loved wildest and most elusive creatures. From the highest mountains to the deepest rivers this blockbuster series takes you on an unforgettable journey through the daily struggle for survival in Earth's most extreme habitats. Planet Earth takes you to places you have never seen before to experience sights and sounds you may never experience anywhere else.Running Time: 550 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: MISCELLANEOUS/SPECIAL INTEREST UPC: 794051293824 Manufacturer No: E2938 |

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!: The Complete First and Second Seasons List Price: $64.92 Sale Price: $29.99 |
|
Chuck Jones and other great studio animators sneered at the cheap look and lazy craftsmanship of Hanna Barbera's television cartoons in the 1960s, but there's no question HB's original, 35-year-old Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! is enduringly beloved. The Complete First and Second Seasons includes all 25 stories first broadcast from September '69 to October '71, a growth period in which canine hero Scooby's voice (by Don Messick, who also voiced The Jetsons's pup, Astro) was gradually refined from murky garble to Scoob's more familiar, "Rrroowwrr"-inflected, human-like speech. This set also represents the pre-frills Scooby-Doo: no guest appearances by Don Knotts or Batman, no Scrappy-Doo--just adventure and occasional bubblegum pop tunes by Danny Janssen and sundry co-writers (e.g., "Pretty Mary Sunlite" in the episode "Don't Fool with a Phantom"). Watching all the shows back-to-back reveals evolving complexity in the scripts. Over time, Scooby-Doo's creators added multiple bad guys in cahoots with major villains, and developed sub-plots, backstories, and even appealing allies and friends of Mystery, Inc., a traveling band of young debunkers of supernatural phenomena. Riding around in their psychedelic Mystery Van, preppie leader Fred and his friends--haughty Daphne, brainy Velma, quasi-hippie Shaggy, and Shaggy's best pal, Scooby, an excitable Great Dane--chase down and are chased by alleged ghouls who generally turn out to be venal humans running various scams. Included here is Scooby-Doo's premiere, "What a Night for a Knight," in which the gang looks into the disappearance of a noted archaeologist and end up in a "haunted" museum. The fun "Go Away Ghost Ship" finds our heroes helping a shipping company daunted by the apparent ghost of pirate Red Beard, while the silly classic "A Tiki Scare Is No Fair" concerns a Hawaiian vacation for Mystery, Inc. disrupted by a witch doctor. --Tom Keogh All 25 episodes from the original "Scooby-Doo" series--including "What a Night for a Knight," "Never Ape an Ape Man," "Spooky Space Kook," "Jeepers! It's the Creeper!," and "Don't Fool with a Phantom"--are included in a four-disc set. 10 3/4 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; featurettes; music video; more. **25 episodes on 4 discs. 10 3/4 hrs.** |

The Great Race List Price: $19.98 Sale Price: $4.77 |
|
Director Blake Edwards, fresh from the success of the first two Pink Panther movies, indulged his love of classic slapstick comedy with this long free-for-all, which throws in everything but Laurel and Hardy's kitchen sink. The film reunites Some Like It Hot stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, ably aided by a spunky Natalie Wood. The subject is a New-York-to-Paris auto race in the early years of the 20th century, pitting the Great Leslie (Curtis), a goody-goody dressed all in white--even his teeth sparkle--against the malevolent Professor Fate (Lemmon), whose coal-black heart is reflected in his handlebar mustache. He looks like a bill collector from a silent- movie melodrama. Lemmon does double duty, also playing the pampered, drunken king of a small European country, whose laugh sounds like the wail of a cat in heat. The film may be too long for its own good, and you really have to love Jack Lemmon to put up with his over-the-top performance, but it's side-splitting in spots. It's one of those movies, if seen in childhood, that stays in your mind for years afterward. Some of the bigger routines, such as a pie fight of epic proportions, don't work as well as the simple chemistry between the perpetually exasperated Professor Fate and his much-abused assistant, Max (a terrific Peter Falk). Push the button, Max. --Robert Horton Kitchen sink comic salute to silent slapstick from Blake Edwards follows a pack of wacky racers, including stalwart hero Tony Curtis, dastardly villain Jack Lemmon, and femme fatale Natalie Wood, on a 22,000-mile road race from New York to Paris in 1908. Peter Falk, Keenan Wynn, Vivian Vance, Larry Storch and Ross Martin also star. 160 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French; Subtitles: English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai; "making of" documentary; biographies; trailer. |
This is for Those Who Love the Vintage Guitar
Vintage Guitar has been in the market for the past 25 years. There are so many lovers of vintage guitar, many who think of those who play guitar first remember the name vintage.
Vintage stands for brand, like Fender and Gibson apparel. In fact, vintage covers a big family of guitars, each unique in characteristics with different varieties of guitars including: Alembic Guitars, Aria Guitars, Armstrong Guitars, B.C. Rich guitars, Benedetto Vintage Guitars and many more.
The Alembic Vintage Guitar is the smaller part of rock and roll guitar legends. It is highly used among performers and well appreciated by listening audience round the world. Ron and Susan Wickersham created alembic Vintage Guitar in 1969. The role of the Alembic was to improve the sound quality of both live concepts and the concepts recorded. After some time Wickersham realized that there should be improvement in the product. So in 1972, Alembic come up with their own line instrument that resulted in having a bass made for Jack Cassady of Jefferson Airplane.
Artist who have performed with Alembic vintage guitars used to go on forever with their Alembic vintage guitars only. Hence nowadays, it has become tough to find one.
Aria is among the oldest guitar makers in the world today. Their guitars are classy, high quality and innovative, with a strong hold over the last 50 years. From the seventies, the Aria’s quality has been frequently changing to updated models like the Aria Pro 2. New changes and technology help Aria to survive in the eighties with the popularity of hard rock and heavy metal. XX, ZZ and U-1 are the models of Aria that has been designed for precision shredding and fast chord changes.
In the beginning, Carvin seemed to be a small business fairy tale. The company’s ongoing success made Carvin Vintage guitars a popular choice for guitar lovers. In 1946, Carvin business was started by Lowell Kiesel in a California garage. For making a guitar, Carvin used to pick up other materials form vendors but now the company does have their own guitar accessories. In the end of 1970, Carvin began to design and make their guitars from their own components, according to customer specification. For example, it is possible for a customer to choose wood for their instrument. A Carvin vintage guitar is easy to find at many places; any local music shop is a good place for seeeking the right guitar.
Benedetto Vintage Guitars are almost considered essential for jazz musicians. They are totally handmade guitars. The Benedetto Guitar is used by many musicians, jazz and many others as well. And the Benedetto Guitar has even been noted as making sound impact on the musician as well as music. In 1968, the original version of guitar was introduced with listeners really enjoying the harmonic sounds that come out from it. All beginner musicians as well as well-trained musicians appreciated and still appreciate this guitar. It is one of the most eminent Archtop-guitar types. I'm looking for good things for a family ( two adults, two teenagers, and a kid) to do in the Northwest US.
My family is going out west for a couple of weeks. We are going to Seattle, and parts of Washington, the top part of Oregon, and through to Montana. Does anyone have anything that would be interesting for us to do? I would love to check out some vintage clothing stores(know any good ones) and of course, we want to go all of the touristy stuff. Please help, I want to know where to go, seeing how its all foreign to me.
I can cover Seattle for you...
There's lots of popular sites to see as far as the touristy stuff goes. For one, the Space Needle is a must-see and is the icon of Seattle. You must take a ride up at least once in your lifetime to see the wonderful view that the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Also go down to Pike Place Market which is where tons of vendors sell cool items. You may be able to find some vintage clothing stores in this area or close by.
For the kids, Seattle Center is the place to be. There are amusement park styled rides and a giant arcade. The Pacific Science Center which includes an IMAX theatre resides here and is a lot of fun for kids. This is also where the new Experience Music Project is which is really neat if you are into music history. You can take a monorail ride from Seattle Center to Westlake Center which is a large shopping mall in downtown Seattle. They have a nice food court and some popular stores. Most of the other major sites in Seattle will all be within walking distance. The best thing you can do is walk around and see what you run into. We have a small China Town that offers some of the best Chinese food that you will find in the United States. Also, the kids may like to visit GameWorks which is a giant arcade with lots of games. Overpriced, but fun nonetheless.
Please see my sources for more information. Hope I helped and have fun on your trip. Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the entire world!
