Benefits of the OnLive Online Service

The recently launched online gaming system OnLive has everyone around the world talking and for good reasons.  Typically, when a new online gaming system is developed, gamers and publishers find one or two things that stand out but with OnLive online service, the benefits are tremendous.  All across the board, this new technology is upping competition, as other online gaming companies and game retailers now realize they are in for the fight of their life.  The OnLive online service is nothing like what gamers have ever experienced before.

Cost – With a tight economy, people who enjoy online gaming as a form of entertainment, and even competition are like everyone else in trying to cut back on costs.  Unfortunately, the cost of conventional retail games and downloaded online games quickly adds up but with the OnLive online service, people will actually save money.  Subscriptions will be open to the public this coming winter at which time consumers will find standard low prices but also various bundled packages for even more savings.

Publisher Involvement – Another of the many benefits associated with the OnLive online service is that it has the top tier game publishers on fire.  This new online gaming solution is so powerful and so innovative, that the best of the best publishers want a piece of the action.  Some of the game publishers eager to get involved include Atari, Warner Brothers, Interactive Media, Epic Games, Ubisoft, THQ, Take-Two, EA, and many others.  This means that once OnLive begins selling subscriptions, the level of games will be outstanding.

Game Play Viewing – Next, the OnLive online service can be played on a standard television, personal computer, and Macintosh. The only requirements include having high definition, broadband internet connectivity, and time to play.  The OnLive online service was developed to support Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Intel-based Macintosh computers that run on OS X, No GPU, or fast CPU.  The best part of this is that the games played can be played in real time and of the same high caliber on an entry level computer system or television, meaning that gamers do not have to go out and purchase a high end system.

MicroConsole – The OnLive online service also uses an affordable MicroConsole so games can also be played on the television.  Usually, online gaming consoles are expensive, costing the consumer anywhere from $300 to $800.  In addition, people would pay a set up fee and upgrade fees.  However, with the OnLive online service, the gamer simply goes to the website, tries demo games to determine the ones to purchase, and after signing up for the service, the company sends the consumer the MicroConsole for a very low price.

Interactive Gaming – With other online gaming systems, significant limitations exist when it comes to interactive gaming.  While people can connect with others, there is usually a 1,000 mile limitation due to the location of servers. However, the OnLive online service is different.  Being supported by five data centers and using broadband internet makes it possible for people from all over the world to play an interactive game.

Experience – One of the greatest benefits of the OnLive online service is that this technology has been a seven-year process involving top developers, engineers, publishers, creators, and other online gaming professionals.  The founder, Steve Perlman himself founded WebTV, Mova, which is a special technology that can take a human face and turn it into animation for movies and video, and Reardon, an incubator.  Therefore, every aspect of OnLive has been touched by people who offer the greatest expertise in the business.
