The IT world is fast moving towards adoption of eco-friendly and greener data centers. The need for environmental awareness and corporate social responsibility has made it more than necessary to pay attention to such initiatives.
The biggest deterrent most hosting and IT companies face in establishing data centers is the cost factor. The steep costs in setting up a green data center keep many IT companies from going for an eco-friendly data center. The nature of the
However if you care to check the statistics from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, data centers consumed up to more than 12 billion kilowatt hours of electrical power in 2000 alone which further amplified to 23 billion in the year 2005! Mind-boggling figures, isn't it!
In US alone as per estimation from EPA Energy Star reports the server market grew in 2005 from 2.8 million units to roughly 4.9 million units in almost five years by January 2010. The rise in server markets means inevitable spurt in energy consumption and need of cutting back on power usage and finding greener alternatives in data center companies. As early as 2007, the now famous "The Green Grid" was set up by joint efforts of IBM, AMD, Intel, Microsoft and Sun towards reducing power consumption. The efforts of "US Green Building Council" (USGBC) are also worth mention as it has initiated a new certification outlining compliance of green benchmarks for data centers.
We all know that setting up and implementing legislation is never a less cumbersome process and runs its own course toward completion. However, some immediate and pragmatic ways and means can be followed to get a greener and safer nature for all.
Quick Ways to Eco-friendly Data Centers
a)Weigh up your energy efficiency
It is important to audit your data center's energy consumption patterns and how energy is sourced and what are its distribution channels in your company. This would aid in creating a guide map for examining and trimming down energy usage. The initial energy audit can offer a baseline for determining your ROI after executing the changes.
b) Reassess your redundancy
It's not uncommon to find very large hosting companies and data centers to incur expenses on redundant cooling & heating systems. These systems use up twice the amount of power they typically require. Redundant circuits consume double the power for each kilowatt of energy needed. The aim is to have a backup for peak time performance however utmost power flows through though a mere fraction is put to use. You should immediately cut back on such redundancies and function on current requirements instead of projected one- making savings on power bills
c) Practice Storage Virtualization
Most of the times servers are stuffed with very old programs and archival information that are seldom used. Adoption of storage virtualization allows you to shutdown unused servers and enjoy mobility of applications. It gets simpler to redirect information or remap the applications to desired locales without loss of efficiency. This practice needs wider evangelicizing, especially among large content farms and content writing services organizations.
d) Discover alternative power sources
It's important to explore alternative power resources to stay green. Do you remember photo-voltaic cells? Installing solar panels on rooftops is a good way to lessen your reliance on power grids. Evaporative cooling, wind energy, heat pumps are few other alternative energy sources reduce your carbon footprints on nature at low cost.
e) Recycle or donate older legacy servers
Did you try to phase out your legacy machines and buy new ones with energy efficiency ratings? If not then do it. Give away older servers in charity to not-for-profit companies. Better still to rope in a computer equipment recycling vendor who can dispose large amounts of toxic waste while pulling apart useful parts from it.
f) Embrace Energy Star rated appliances
While EPA strives to release energy star standards for data servers, you'd do well to buy cooling appliances and other instruments with energy stars on it. Star-rated desktops are also not difficult to find today.
Proper and consistent efforts and strong will are the key ingredients to setting up green data centers worldwide

Xbox 360 - Red Ring of Death - Fix it in 37 Minutes
What is Xbox 360?
The Xbox 360 is the second video game console produced by Microsoft, and the successor to the Xbox. It competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
Some major features of the console includes its integrated Xbox Live service that allows players to compete online, download arcade games, game demos, trailers,TV shows and movies and its Windows Media Center multimedia capabilities.
The Xbox 360 is currently available in two configurations-the "Arcade" and the "Elite".
<b><u>Part of Xbox 360. </b> </u>
The main unit of the Xbox itself has slight double concavity in matte white or black. The official color of the white model is Arctic Chill. It features a port on the top when vertical (left side when horizontal) to which a custom-housed hard drive unit can be attached in sizes of either 20, 60 or 120 GB. Inside, the xbox 360 uses the triple-core IBM designed Xenon as its CPU. Graphics processing is handled by the ATI Xenos, which has 10 MB of eDRAM. Its main memory pool is 512 MB in size.
<b> <u>Multimedia Support </b> </u>
The Xbox 360 supports videos in Windows Media Video (WMV) format (including high-definition and PlaysForSure videos), as well as H.264 and MPEG-4 media. The December 2007 dashboard update added support for the playback of MPEG-4 ASP format videos.
<b> <u> Dashboard </b> </u>
The Xbox 360's original graphical user interface was the Xbox 360 Dashboard; a tabbed interface that featured five "Blades" and was designed by AKQA. It could be launched automatically when the console booted without a disc in it, or when the disc tray was ejected, but the user had the option to select what the console does if a game is in the tray on start up, or if inserted when already on. A simplified version of it was also accessible at any time via the Xbox Guide button on the gamepad. This simplified version showed the user's gamercard, Xbox Live messages and friends list. It also allowed for personal and music settings, in addition to voice or video chats, or returning to the Xbox Dashboard from the game.
On November 19, 2008, the Xbox 360's dashboard was changed from the "Blade" interface, to a dashboard reminiscent of that present on the Zune and Windows Media Center, known as the "New Xbox Experience" or NXE.
Since the console's release, Microsoft has released several updates for the Dashboard software. These updates have included adding new features to the console, enhancing Xbox Live functionality and multimedia playback capabilities, adding compatibility for new accessories, and fixing bugs in the software. The latest Dashboard update was made available on November 17, 2009.
<b> <u>Technical Problems </b> </u>
The Xbox video game console is subject to a number of technical problems that can render it unusable. Many of the issues can be identified by a series of red lights flashing on the face of the console nicknamed the "Red Ring of Death".
What is Red Ring of Death?
Red Ring of Death is a series of light indications that appear in front of the console which reports to the user that the unit is having a failure or a problem. The lights appear in different styles reporting different types of failures. If the unit faces any failures, then the user has to take it to techie to get it fixed or send it back to microsoft to fix it, which will take time and cost lots of money.
But do you think can it be fixed at a cheaper price or at no cost at all that would take less than 40 minutes? If you dont, it's time to try <a target="_new" rel="nofollow" href="http://xboxredringfixer.blogspot.com">Red Ring Fixer</a> and believe it.

How can I undo the damage to my IBM laptop which is running slower, freezes, and may have a virus?
I have an IBM Thinkpad A21m pentium III 645MHz 256MB RAM and the operating system is Windows XP professional version 2002 service pack 2. The hard drive has about 20GB and there is over 15 GB of unused memory. I google searched anti-virus, spyware free software and downloaded them which caused major havoc. One such program caused windows to start poping up saying that I have a virus, even though the anti virus scanner didn't pick anything up. When I clicked on the window it would take me to another anti-virus software sight. I even did system restore. The more I have tried the worse my computer has gotten. I initially tried to have MC Afee 30 day trial version but my computer froze up. Is there any software package I can buy, or can someone, step by step tell me what to do so I can undue what I have done, and add a reputable spyware, anti-virus program? If you want more clarification email me at reymantic@yahoo.com
It sounds like you've infested your Microsoft system with trojans and other malware. Purchase a proper security suite from Sophos or Avira. They will also be able to provide support.
You may also wish to consider a full reinstall.
Never run Microsoft Windows without extra security from other vendors.
