Cancer is probably everyone's biggest fear. If you're like me, every time you have a lump or bump or any unusual pain, this is the first thing that pops into your mind and you imagine the worst. How do I determine ethandioate content?
If I had an inorganic complex, hydrated potassium tris(ethandioato)chromate(III), chemical formula K3[Cr(C2O4)3].3H2O, how is it possible for me to determine the percent ethandioate content of this complex? Also, how would I determine the Chromium content of this complex? All I know is that the ratio is 3:1. Can anyone help me? Much appreciated.
You can determine ethanedioate (better known as oxalate) by redox titration with permanganate under acidic conditions.
I think you can determine Cr by boiling up in alkali, collecting Cr(OH)3 precipitated, and heating to constant weight of Cr2O3.
But oxide assessment for transition metals is sometimes trickier than it sounds. I recommend a search on chromium (analysis)
