After a decade of nascent cult fanaticism, Star Trek was finally reborn in 1979, given new life by an epic-sized feature-film production that all but squashed the quaint humanity that had been one of the original television series' most compelling elements (the producers got it right on Wrath of Khan and seldom looked back). Jerry Goldsmith's score, alternating robust heroics with alien mystique, is arguably the most memorable element of Star Trek: The Motion Picture; indeed, its main theme has heralded the voyages of the Enterprise in TV and film adventures ever since. This slipcased new edition resequences Goldsmith's music and supplements it with 25 minutes of previously unreleased, typically masterful cues. The set's "bonus" disc, Inside Star Trek with Gene Roddenberry, appeals to more polarized audiences: veteran Trekkers and shameless lovers of pop-culture kitsch. This 1976 artifact (previously unreleased on CD) was one of the first "official" efforts to address the show's burgeoning postcancellation popularity and features Trek creator Roddenberry ruminating earnestly about the show's origins and meanings with the likes of William Shatner and DeForest Kelley (who gives an eerily prescient lecture on the foibles of modern health care). Also features new narration by Nichelle "Uhuru" Nichols. Bonus points: Shatner doesn't sing! --Jerry McCulley

At a time when too many animated films consist of anthropomorphized animals cracking sitcom one-liners and flatulence jokes, the warmth, originality, humor, and unflagging imagination of Up feel as welcome as rain in a desert. Carl Fredericksen (voice by Ed Asner) ranks among the most unlikely heroes in recent animation history. A 78- year-old curmudgeon, he enjoyed his modest life as a balloon seller because he shared it with his adventurous wife Ellie (Ellie Docter). But she died, leaving him with memories and the awareness that they never made their dream journey to Paradise Falls in South America. When well-meaning officials consign Carl to Shady Oaks Retirement Home, he rigs thousands of helium balloons to his house and floats to South America. The journey's scarcely begun when he discovers a stowaway: Russell (Jordan Nagai), a chubby, maladroit Wilderness Explorer Scout who's out to earn his Elderly Assistance Badge. In the tropical jungle, Carl and Russell find more than they bargained for: Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer), a crazed explorer whose newsreels once inspired Carl and Ellie; Kevin, an exotic bird with a weakness for chocolate; and Dug (Bob Peterson), an endearingly dim golden retriever fitted with a voice box. More importantly, the travelers discover they need each other: Russell needs a (grand)father figure; Carl needs someone to enliven his life without Ellie. Together, they learn that sharing ice-cream cones and counting the passing cars can be more meaningful than feats of daring-do and distant horizons. Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc. ) and Bob Peterson direct the film with consummate skill and taste, allowing the poignant moments to unfold without dialogue to Michael Giacchnio's vibrant score. Building on their work in The Incredibles and Ratatouille, the Pixar crew offers nuanced animation of the stylized characters. Even by Pixar's elevated standards, Up is an exceptional film that will appeal of audiences of all ages. Rated PG for some peril and action. --Charles SolomonStills from Up (Click for larger image)

J.J. Abrams' 2009 feature film was billed as "not your father's Star Trek," but your father will probably love it anyway. And what's not to love? It has enough action, emotional impact, humor, and sheer fun for any moviegoer, and Trekkers will enjoy plenty of insider references and a cast that seems ideally suited to portray the characters we know they'll become later. Both a prequel and a reboot, Star Trek introduces us to James T. Kirk (Chris Pine of The Princess Diaries 2), a sharp but aimless young man who's prodded by a Starfleet captain, Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), to enlist and make a difference. At the Academy, Kirk runs afoul of a Vulcan commander named Spock (Zachary Quinto of Heroes), but their conflict has to take a back seat when Starfleet, including its new ship, the Enterprise, has to answer an emergency call from Vulcan. What follows is a stirring tale of genocide and revenge launched by a Romulan (Eric Bana) with a particular interest in Spock, and we get to see the familiar crew come together, including McCoy (Karl Urban), Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Sulu (John Cho), Chekhov (Anton Yelchin), and Scottie (Simon Pegg). The action and visuals make for a spectacular Big-Screen Movie, though the plot by Abrams and his writers, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (who worked together on Transformers and with Abrams on Alias and Mission Impossible III), and his producers (fellow Losties Damon Lindeloff and Bryan Burk) can be a bit of a mind-bender (no surprise there for Lost fans). Hardcore fans with a bone to pick may find faults, but resistance is futile when you can watch Kirk take on the Kobayashi Maru scenario or hear McCoy bark, "Damnit, man, I'm a doctor, not a physicist!" An appearance by Leonard Nimoy and hearing the late Majel Barrett Roddenberry as the voice of the computer simply sweeten the pot. Now comes the hard part: waiting for some sequels to this terrific prequel. --David Horiuchi Stills from Star Trek (Click for larger image)
The perennial sci-fi franchise is reinvigorated, courtesy of "Lost" creator J.J. Abrams. Reckless Starfleet cadet James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), logical Vulcan instructor Spock (Zachary Quinto), down-and-out doc Leonard "Bones" McCoy (Karl Urban), and the rest of the Enterprise crew come together for the first time to stop a vengeful Romulan (Eric Bana) who's traveled back in time, creating an alternate reality. Simon Pegg, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Leonard Nimoy also star. 126 min. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English Dolby TrueHD 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish, Portuguese; audio commentary; featurettes; deleted scenes; gag reel; bonus digital copy for PC; more. Three-disc set. NOTE: This Title Is Out Of Print; Limit One Per Customer.

The Big Deal About Trek Mountain Bikes
If you're looking for a mountain bike you can show off to your cycling buddies – and upstage them with in the bargain – you usually go for the brand name bikes. Bikes under the Intense, Ellsworth, Specialized labels are known for their excellent performance on the track. Trek is among the more popular of these big-name brands. Trek mountain bikes are especially known for being durable and highly maneuverable. They're also sought after for flexibility of design.
As with trendy car owners, bike enthusiasts relish the worth of a good name. Trek lovers get their enthusiasm's worth when this particular bike brand blazes its name across various sports and recreational media. For example, Trek mountain bikes are featured in Downhill Domination, a popular arcade game for Playstation 2. This game is similar to many racing games that involve luxury cars and the like, only this would possibly be more appealing to hardcore mountain bikers, because it involves labels they are sure to recognize, such as Giant and Trek.
And Trek has quite a name to live up to. Consumersearch.com's March 2006 report puts the Trek 4500 in its top picks for entry-level, full-featured, front-suspension bikes. The page also mentions that Mountain Bike Magazine's 2004 Buyer's Guide billed the Trek Fuel women's bike rather highly. As a matter of fact, the Trek womens' bikes also invite a good long look.
Womens' bikes made by Trek are probably known for one thing best – adopting to small physiques. Smaller Trek bikes that are nonetheless built for maneuverability and speed works out well for petite women who are comfortable with an active lifestyle. In fact the manufacturer has come up with a codename for this considerate sort of engineering style: WSD or Women Specific Design.
And you must admit, not a lot of mountain bikes are being built for women nowadays. With their generally slighter physiques, some women will have problems adapting to bikes built for much larger and physically stronger men. We can't deny that comfort is a big thing, especially for high-activity and potentially high-risk sports like trail biking.
What distinguishes Trek mountain bikes from the competition is their ability to suit different body types and take weight into consideration. If budget is not a matter of concern, feel free to literally give Trek bikes a spin around the block and see how they could serve as a wise investment for you as a true biking fan.

Where can you buy a chess game that has 3 levels like the one Kirk & Spock used to play on Star Trek?
I'm very good at chess. I programmed my computer to play chess Allowing it to make its own changes every other game we play and I still win.
Chess is beyond me but I did find out that Tridimensional Chess sets can be found on eBay by entering
Star Trek Chess.
The link in the source section not only has rules for Tri-dimensional chess, but also has directions for making your own chess board(s) layout so that you can play it.
My husband used to have a board for this game and said it is really interesting, and REALLY difficult.
Have fun!
