Unique Features Of IBM LTO-4 Tape Technology
IBM LTO4 data tapes have an enormous storage capacity with 2:1 compression. With this compression ratio, the capacity of IBM LTO-4 tape cartridge is doubled in compressed form, which is 1.6 Terabyte and 800GB (native). IBM LTO4 ultrium format incorporates special innovative features that reduce the human interventions for backup storage operations. Therefore this saves valuable time of the I.T staff and leads to reduced operational costs. The IBM LTO-4 media cartridges require lesser physical storage space. IBM tests all the LTO backup tapes and optimizes them to provide remarkable backup solutions at an affordable price. Advantageous technologies added to the IBM LTO-4 tape cartridges enable them to withstand the increasing demands of data intensive applications. IBM LTO-4 ultrium technology assists the data administrators to improve their overall management’s efficiency thus leading to increased output level. Long term secure storage of critical data is ensured by IBM LTO-4 data tapes at lowest cost per GB. The intelligent IBM LTO-4 format assists the organizations in compliance with the strict information retention regulations.
Superior data integrity is maintained by the reliable features of IBM LTO-4 tape. IBM also manufactures the LTO-4 backup media having the WORM capability. Durable & highly smooth base film of LTO-4 ultrium ensures maximized output characteristics and outstanding mechanical stability. The IBM LTO drives are specifically engineered to offer superior compatibility and high output characteristics in harsh environmental conditions. IBM LTO-4 is the top most choice of the clients. IBM has included a memory chip in the fourth generation LTO cartridge which holds the statistical analysis of media reading & writing. This information helps the backup tape drives to perform their assigned backup tasks quickly in an efficient manner.
Unmatched read/write reliability of IBM LTO-4 tape ensures protection of client’s valuable data from accidental loss and un-authorized use. Data searching has become faster and the performance level has further heightened by the addition of LTO-CM (cartridge memory). Advanced IBM LTO4 tape format assures fast data transferring at a steady maintained rate of 120 Mbps. loading & unloading cycles of LTO-4 media have been boosted by the LTO-CM. The green colored cartridge of IBM LTO-4 helps to differentiate it from the prior IBM LTO tape versions. The WORM enabled IBM LTO4 has two-tone colored cartridge which differentiates it from the re-writable IBM LTO-4 backup tapes.
IBM LTO4 storage tapes are very robust and highly compatible that ensures protection of user’s investments. These IBM LTO-4 media tapes deliver breakthrough features that allow storage of voluminous information with superior level of output frequency. IBM LTO4 ultrium cartridges continue to provide unparalleled performance and efficient backup operations as the enterprise’s infrastructure and backup storage needs grow. Metal Particle mechanism has increased the LTO-4 tape’s storage capacity and media robustness. IBM LTO-4 format has the ability to deliver high out without any drop in performance level under heavy work cycles.

Data Transfer? IBM Thinkpad?
Would it be possible for someone to walk me through the process of transferring the data on my ancient IBM ThinkPad whose usb port has given up the ghost?
What would be the best media?
There may also be a problem with the parallel ports.
In the past I have had the shop transfer the data from one laptop to another, but I'm assuming technology has greatly improved in the past three
years and it is possible to DIY?
And the lastly, would it be possible to retrieve the data from some really truly ancient laptops, using serial/parallel cables - from a 386 and a couple of
486s, that ran Windows 3.1?
Using: Windows 98E
Internet Explorer 6.0.2800
WinCim 2.6.8.1 CSNAV 1.1.1,
EMail Assist for CSNAV/WinCim
AVG 7.1.0.287, Office 2000 (9.0.275).
InfranView 3.97 IBM ThinkPad 600E,
Aureate Group Mail 3.0.205, FoxMail 2.1.
Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4.0.3
The fastest and easiest way to do this is to get a USB enclosure for the dark drive. See the link below. This is the method I use with my clients
IBM simplifying its storage range
An embarrassment of riches Comment IBM has been announcing new storage products at a quickfire rate: SONAS, Virtual Disk System (VDS), and the XIV-based Smart Business Cloud are three of them. How do they fit together with each other and with the NetApp-sourced N Series and the DS3000/5000 and 8000 array offerings?… The power of collaboration within unified communications
