This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ John Kelley. If this mix doesn't make you feel like dancing even once, please return it to the store you bought it from and ask them to check you for a pulse. Author's Review Finally a DJ, not afraid to actually release a mix cd that was created with two turntables and a mixer. I know it seems odd, but surprisingly enough, most DJ mix CDs out there were put together in a computer. Parts might have been mixed by hand, but in the end they were precisely edited to achieve that "perfect" sound. Well, you know what? I sort of like it when the mix doesn't sound perfect. Not only does it give wannabee DJs like myself hope, but it demonstrates that the mix is a real performance. It's sort of like all of the big boy bands getting their songs written for them. They are just the face to the music. I listen to the music for the music, I'm not in it for the "face". That said, it is quite refreshing to hear the occasional quick adjustment in this mix. At times you can hear John Kelley grabbing the record ever so slightly to bring the beats back in line during a transition. Don't worry, it isn't anything like a trainwreck avoidance, just a slight nudge to keep things pumping. No whimpy mix by numbers here either. John Kelley will begin setting up the next track minutes in advance. Even though he does let the songs play thru properly, there is almost always a second track on its way in or out. That keeps things interesting and very upbeat. The EQ skills are fantastic too. It seems he can drop out individual elements and layer in another at will. How many knobs are actually on your mixer John?

The Price of Fame The Price of Fame
List Price: $7.99
Sale Price: $0.74

Bow Wow opens his fifth CD, The Price of Fame with a solemn interview clip in which the rapper/actor discusses "the mental breakdown dealing with the price of fame," thus setting the stage for a deeply emotive release. For a handful of tracks, he does exactly that, showing fans--and his competition-- just how refreshing that can be. The disc's first single, "Shortie Like Mine," featuring fellow teen heartthrob Chris Brown finds Bow Wow spitting rapid-fire rhymes and embedding lyrical skills with his especially melodic rap style. "Tell Me" combines those same talents mixed with surprisingly candid subject matter: a plea to get his ex to come back to him. As he implores "I'm a whole different individual now/everybody but you invisible now" to compelling back beats and samples (thanks to co-Executive Producer Jermaine Dupri), it feels like the pair could create a new genre: emo/electro/hip-hop. Dupri's amped-up hooks drive the disc, staying consistent while Bow Wow's identity oscillates between a lover and a wanna-be gangsta. Other songs worth noting are the hidden track, an R. Kelly duet dubbed "I'm a Flirt" and the cheeky "Damn Thing" featuring Da Brat. On the downside, a number of tunes contain far too much thug posturing: "Bet That," "4 Corners" (featuring Lil' Wayne) and the 50 Cent-inflected "On Fiya" are filled with clichéd car/money/thug lyrics, causing Bow Wow's uniqueness to get lost in the flow. --Denise Sheppard

The Green Hornet The Green Hornet
List Price: $19.99
Sale Price: $2.48

The buzz around The Green Hornet comes from the collision of weird talents involved: Seth Rogen plays the crime-fighting hero and writes the movie with his Superbad bud Evan Goldberg; pop star Jay Chou plays Kato; and the whimsy-headed Michel Gondry directs. Toss in Inglourious Basterds Oscar winner Christoph Waltz as a super-villain highly self-conscious about his brand, and you've got a blockbuster that definitely isn't going for the normal. And for a while, the movie's Apatovian comedy and bromantic tendencies supply some definite fun; plus, Waltz and his double-barreled revolver (along with an uncredited cameo by James Franco) launch the picture with a giddy opening action sequence. At some point, though, you want all this stuff to mesh, and The Green Hornet keeps zipping about in three directions at once, never quite maintaining its early comic zip, but not grounding itself in an engaging enough crime-fighting plot, either. And there's little to do for nominal female lead Cameron Diaz; although both millionaire playboy Britt Reid and Kato make half-hearted passes at her, it's clear their main interest is each other. You just knew a franchise that began as a radio serial in the 1930s (and took a brief but memorable detour into TV in the '60s) would end up being part of that unavoidable 21st-century genre, the male-bonding comedy. Of course, it's really a triangle. Their boss car, Black Beauty, also gets a lot of love. --Robert Horton

Action and comedy mix in this modern update of the classic crimefighter of radio, serial, comic, and TV fame. After his father's death, playboy and newspaper publisher Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) becomes the masked vigilante the Green Hornet. Along with martial arts master Kato (Jay Chou), the Hornet uses an arsenal of high-tech gadgets to do battle against a ruthless Russian mobster (Christoph Waltz) who plans to unite all of L.A.'s crime families into one evil organization. Sale Price: $3.81

The often breathtaking, final installment in the Bourne trilogy finds the titular assassin with no memory closing in on his past, finally answering his own questions about his real identity and how he came to be a seemingly unstoppable killing machine. Matt Damon returns for another intensely physical performance as Jason Bourne, the rogue operative at war with the CIA, which made him who and what he is and managed to kill his girlfriend in the series' second film, The Bourne Supremacy. Now looking for payback, Bourne goes in search for the renegade chief of CIA operations in Europe and North Africa, partnering for a time with a mysterious woman from his past (Julia Stiles) and constantly--constantly--on the run from assassins, intelligence foot soldiers, and cops. Directed by Paul Greengrass (United 93) with the director's thrilling, trademark textures and shaky, documentary style, The Bourne Ultimatum is largely a succession of action scenes that reveal a lot about the story's characters while they're under duress. Joan Allen, Albert Finney, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, and Paddy Considine comprise the film's terrific supporting cast, and the well-traveled movie leads viewers through Turin, Madrid, Tangiers, Paris, London, and New York. Overall, this is a satisfying conclusion to Bourne's exciting and protracted mystery. --Tom Keogh Beyond The Bourne Ultimatum on DVD More Bourne More Action from Universal Studios More Matt Damon Stills from The Bourne Ultimatum (Click for larger image)

The Da Vinci Code (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition) The Da Vinci Code (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition)
List Price: $14.99
Sale Price: $2.65

Critics and controversy aside, The Da Vinci Code is a verifiable blockbuster. Combine the film's huge worldwide box-office take with over 100 million copies of Dan Brown's book sold, and The Da Vinci Code has clearly made the leap from pop-culture hit to a certifiable franchise. The leap for any story making the move from book to big screen, however, is always more perilous. In the case of The Da Vinci Code, the plot is concocted of such a preposterous formula of elements that you wouldn't envy screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, the man tasked with making this story filmable. The script follows Dan Brown's book as closely as possible while incorporating a few needed changes, including a better ending. And if you're like most of the world, by now you've read the book and know how it goes: while lecturing in Paris, noted Harvard Professor of Symbology Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is summoned to the Louvre by French police to help decipher a bizarre series of clues left at the scene of the murder of the chief curator. Enter Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), gifted cryptologist. Neveu and Langdon team up to solve the mystery, and from there the story is propelled across Europe, ballooning into a modern-day mini-quest for the Holy Grail, where secret societies are discovered, codes are broken, and murderous albino monks are thwarted… oh, and alternative theories about the life of Christ and the beginnings of Christianity are presented too, of course. It's not the typical formula for a stock Hollywood thriller. In fact, taken solely as a mystery, the movie almost works--despite some gaping holes--mostly just because it keeps moving. Brown's greatest trick was to have the entire story take place in one day, so the action is forced to keep moving, despite some necessary pauses for exposition. As a screen couple, Hanks and Tautou are just fine together but not exactly memorable; meanwhile Sir Ian McKellen's scenery-chewing as pivotal character Sir Leigh Teabing is just what the film needed to keep it from taking itself too seriously. The whole thing is like a good roller-coaster ride: try not to think too much about it--just sit back and enjoy the trip. --Daniel Vancini Visit The Da Vinci Code Store On The DVD The DVD extras on a film as popular as The Da Vinci Code should be plentiful, and this version doesn't skimp. With over 90 minutes of special features, including ten behind-the-scenes featurettes, there's a lot here to explore beyond the film itself. The question is, is there anything new here that we haven't heard before, in all the hype, pseudo-documentaries, and controversy surrounding the movie, to make it worthwhile? For most viewers, the answer will be "yes." Essentially, if you like the movie, if you enjoyed the book, you will get a lot out of them. Just as the movie is intended to make the book come to life, the DVD extras should make the film come to life by pointing the audience into the world of the filmmakers, connecting the dots between print and film, and for the most part they do just that. The extras here range from the typical look behind-the-scenes to more in-depth features on the supporting characters, the locations, and the Mona Lisa herself. "First Day on the Set with Ron Howard" features the director gushing about the opportunity to film in the Louvre and work with Tom Hanks again (the two worked together before on Splash and Apollo 13). It's a short piece that doesn't reveal much beyond making an attempt to share Howard's excitement (with the "Gee, I really loved working with him/her on this project" that you hear in every such featurette), but viewers might enjoy seeing how the stage was set up in the famous museum, down to the spike tape on the floor showing actors where to hit their marks. The Filmmaking Experience, Parts 1 and 2 further explores the creative and technical aspects of the filmmaking process. A Conversation with Dan Brown starts out feeling like a puff-piece (the man who wrote this book got started at age 5 with a story called The Giraffe, The Pig, and the Pants on Fire. "It was a thriller," he says.) and unfortunately it doesn't go very deep into much of anything of interest. But on the other hand, this isn't 60 Minutes here; it's intended to give viewers a better sense of the man behind the franchise, which it does. Much of the footage from this interview is sprinkled throughout some of the other featurettes. Meanwhile, the character behind the franchise, Robert Langdon, is examined in his own featurette, as is Sophie Neveu. The cool thing here is getting under the skin of the actors to see how they approached the characters, knowing that most of the movie-going public already has formed their own ideas about the characters from the book. The most interesting extras are the featurettes that focus on the history behind the mystery. Or is it the mystery behind the history? Either way, the first one on the Mona Lisa, and the second featurette on the many codes and symbols that are hidden throughout the movie balance out the remainder of the extras nicely by demonstrating the sense of intrigue, mystery, and game-playing adventure that made The Da Vinci Code so popular in the first place. --Daniel Vancini Beyond The Da Vinci Code The Films of Tom Hanks The Films of Ron Howard The Da Vinci DVDs: Decoding "The Da Vinci Code" More About The Artist Stills from The Da Vinci Code (click for larger image)

This multi-powered scrub offers deep detoxification without damaging the delicate facial skin. The enzymatic exfoliants "dissolve" expired skin cells while gently freeing them from the skin's surface to be washed away by the mechanical exfoliants. Raw, ground-up adzuki bean has been used in skin preparations for centuries in Japan. It provides gentle, manual exfoliation while its astringent properties clarify and tighten the pores. Rice Bran contain a rich blend of unique antioxidants that work individually through different mechanisms and elicit a significant effect in the biological system. Calendula and geranium oil offer skin-brightening attributes, which assists with reducing hyper-pigmentation and post-inflammatory acne. Sea vegetables help to draw toxins out of the skin, assisting in acne healing. The food-based ingredients in this scrub nourish the skin with antioxidants that scavenge free-radicals andoptimize cellular function, resulting in more radiant skin and heightened new cell production. Understanding the Link between Distance Learning and Academic Libraries

Distance learning and academic libraries have a symbiotic relationship, and the steady support of library resources is vital in making any off-campus courses a success. Academic libraries have continuously supported various forms of teaching on campus, such as regular courses and distance learning in its traditional form as well as its new online avatar. Libraries need to aid the educational process in any higher education institution, and cater to a variety of publics, including students, administration staff, and faculty, regardless of the location. In this day and age, it is important that library personnel are up to date with the mediums of technology being employed for delivering online courses, so that they can provide undeterred assistance to their patrons.

How do Virtual Academic Libraries Work?

Most of the virtual libraries linked to universities offering distance learning programs work in a fashion similar to a physical library. Every student enrolled in any course with any particular college is given a Personal Identification Number, which the student needs to provide to the library manager along with the course details he/she is enrolled in for accessing library resources through email. Most of the colleges give students a unique username and password thereafter, which can be used to browse library catalogs and locate specific articles.

A lot of universities have mutual information sharing, wherein if certain information requested by a student is not available in the library resources of the college he is enrolled in, he can request it from a library resource of a partner college. The University of Houston for example, has a program called ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan internet accessible database) for requesting delivery of books and articles. Any student enrolled with the University of Houston can make a one time registery with this particular delivery format to receive books and articles in the future. Distance Learning and Academic Libraries supporting this form of education have changed the way a traditional library works.

Requirements for Virtual Library Personnel

Virtual library personnel need to have an indepth knowledge of changing technologies and especially of the mediums that a distance education course employs. Understanding the workings of distance learning and academic libraries' role in making it a success is hugely dependent on how the library personnel implement their knowledge. Library staff today are well versed with technology, and have been long time internet users. Moreover they are familiar with inter-library loans and document delivery and are masters at organizing information.

It is essential to realise that distance learning and academic libraries are partners, where the library staff can work together with the faculty to design online courses. Moreover, due to their prociency with computers, librarians can work as technology advisers for most of the faculty and students of a distance education course. And that is the shape of things to come.

what programming language can we use to design library automated system?

we are designig library automated system as part of our project at the end of our course in computer science and we need the appropriate programming language and code in generating such project.

Since this is a course, I assume you want it to be cheap (preferably free) and easy to use. You should have learned this in class, but you are in a rush right now so you aren't thinking about. Don't do the technical stuff until you have your requirements and constraints determined. (Don't get upset, I've been doing this for 22 years now and sometimes I try to start cutting code before I've got these worked out. It takes discipline).

First question: what do you already have on hand and what does your team know?

Second question: what is your architecture?

Third question: what are your constraints

I am going to assume that you are running on a Windows system, not Linux or Unix. I'm also going to assume that you have 1 or more team members who have database experience.

MySQL supports most of SQL calls and is free (www.mysql.com but check yahoo! or google). I've used it on both windows and on Linux. It works pretty well.

For languages, I would stay away from VB or .Net unless you know them well. This is a CS class afterall and the prof probably expects you to write code. I'd use java. The swing libraries are pretty easy to use to make nice GUIs. There are also libraries to attach to databases, but I've forgotten what they are off hand. Again, the internet is your best friend.

BTW: if you want a good grade, you need to have good presentations. Show your design with UML (I assume you learned that even if you didn't use it much). Take an iterative approach so that you can show something new each week. Make sure you have a testing plan (use JUnit for your tests, it works pretty well and is impressive to academic types),.

Good luck and happy programming.
