Please give me some info/opinions and your own stories on switching from a Windowns PC to a Mac.?
I have to get a new laptop and it was suggested to me that I get a Mac (as I might be doing graphic design). I didn't like this idea as I've been using PCs for 10 years and they are a familiar machine to me. Things like troubleshooting, downloading files and programmes and burning stuff onto disk that can be used on other PCs are the things I like doing and wish to keep doing. However, I've just been reading into Mac which claims lots of programmes are compatible along with loads of other reasons to switch so now I'm confused! Ironically, I after I threw out my Amiga 500 when I was 10, I used Mac for a coupla years and realy liked them, but I don't want to spend £1000 on something that will frustrate me because I'm unsure how to use it. So, what problems did you have when switching, or maybe you had no problems at all, and what makes Mac/Windows better than its competitor?
MAC is:
More expensive
not 100% compatible without loading additional programs
less software available
have less than 8% market share
you'll have some learning curve
support is limited to just Apple for upgrades and repairs
not many 3rd party companies can work and repair MACs
most colleges and universities have gone back to PCs
most if not all businesses use Windows based systems
Think until Mac makes more of a market share and is more widely used you are better off staying in the Windows/PC world. The small mac community will push and push their machine to gain acceptance, but if you are comfortable with Windows you should stick to it for your own productivity.
