For Blu-ray-owning fans of classic Looney Tunes cartoons, this is truly the ultimate collection. The quality of the restoration and definition on Blu-ray is nothing short of extraordinary, even on the most vintage of the 50 cartoon shorts featured here. The three discs contain cartoons offering classic tales starring Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Pepé LePew, the Roadrunner and Wile E. Coyote, and some of the best supporting characters from this classic Warner Bros. lineup, like Foghorn Leghorn (one short features a pining, rhyming, absolutely thunderstruck "Lovelorn Leghorn," which is priceless). There is also a wealth of material for the true collector. Each boxed set in this limited edition is numbered, and the box includes a small book on the history of the creation of the characters and early cel by cel cartooning. And no Looney Tunes collection would be complete without material on creator and animator extraordinaire Chuck Jones. The whole third disc of this collection presents little-seen documentaries throughout the decades on Jones and his work, some creations by Jones and his team that never saw release, and much more. The brilliance and humor of Chuck Jones is of course evident in the cartoons, but Jones is one great interview. And the other discs offer even more commentaries, by the voice-over actors and animators, as well as alternate audio tracks. It's almost like being able to be right in the animators' creative room, trying ideas on for size. But the stars of this collection are the Wascally Wabbit and his sidekicks, timeless animated characters, and relatable, entertaining story lines that appeal to generations. It's the Blu-ray equivalent of comfort food, without any of the pesky calories. For fans of animation and any of Hollywood's classic works, the Looney Tunes Platinum Collection is truly a must-have. --A.T. Hurley
Your favorite Looney Tunes stars have "gone platinum" in this huge three-disc collection of 50 animated cartoons from the Warner Bros. vaults! Among the selected shorts are classics featuring Bugs Bunny ("Hare Tonic," "Baseball Bugs," "The Old Grey Hare," "Rabbit of Seville," and more), Daffy Duck ("Duck Amuck," "Robin Hood Daffy," and others), Porky Pig ("Scaredy Cat," "Porky Chops"), and Tweety Bird ("A Tale of Two Kitties," "Tweetie Pie"), as well as "Beep, Beep," "For Scent-imental Reasons," "Lovelorn Leghorn," and others, plus one-shot treasures and the complete collections of Marvin the Martian, Tasmanian Devil, Witch Hazel, Marc Anthony, and Ralph Phillips. 6 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English (SDH), French; bonus shorts; featurettes; booklet; more. Also includes the bonus film "Chuck Amuck: The Movie" (1991). "Now you see it. You're amazed. You can't believe it. Your eyes open wider. It's horrible, but you can't look away. There's no chance for you. No escape. You're helpless, helpless. There's just one chance, if you can scream. Throw your arms across your eyes and scream, scream for your life!" And scream Fay Wray does most famously in this monster classic, one of the greatest adventure films of all time, which even in an era of computer-generated wizardry remains a marvel of stop-motion animation. Robert Armstrong stars as famed adventurer Carl Denham, who is leading a "crazy voyage" to a mysterious, uncharted island to photograph "something monstrous ... neither beast nor man." Also aboard is waif Ann Darrow (Fay Wray) and Bruce Cabot as big lug John Driscoll, the ship's first mate. King Kong's first half-hour is steady going, with engagingly corny dialogue ("Some big, hard-boiled egg gets a look at a pretty face and bang, he cracks up and goes sappy") and ominous portent that sets the stage for the horror to come. Once our heroes reach Skull Island, the movie comes to roaring, chest-thumping, T. rex-slamming, snake-throttling, pterodactyl-tearing, native-stomping life. King Kong was ranked by the American Film Institute as among the 50 best films of the 20th century. Kong making his last stand atop the Empire State Building is one of the movies' most indelible and iconic images. --Donald Liebenson DVD features Not surprisingly, the eighth wonder of the world’s DVD treatment is nothing short of spectacular. The newly restored, digitally mastered print of the 1933 version of King Kong is sharp, well balanced, and given that this film is seventy years old, has very few scratches or blemishes. The restoration is nothing short of amazing. What may frustrate some is the audio. Though crystal clear, it is still in 2.0 Mono. The soundtrack on Kong is such an integral part of the film you really wished they could have pulled it out to at least 2.0 Surround; but this is a minor criticism. The bulk of the commentary track is by visual effects veterans Ray Harryhausen and Ken Ralston joyfully discussing the special effects of the film and discussing why King Kong is such a favorite and important film to the community of visual effects artists. Spliced between their commentaries are colorful and humorous anecdotes from director from Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray. The two documentaries on disc two run over three and half hours long. I Am Kong! The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper is an engaging documentary on the renegade, Hemingway-like director. It is fascinating to learn that Cooper was every bit the adventurer that the fictional director Carl Denham in King Kong was in the film. RKO Production 601: The Making of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World is a two and a half hour documentary broken into 7 parts: "The Origins of King Kong," "Willis O'Brien and Creation," "Cameras Roll on Kong," "The Eighth Wonder," "A Milestone in Visual Effects," "Passion, Sound and Fury," "The Mystery of the Lost Spider Pit Sequence," and "King Kong's Legacy." Also included is complete footage of the legendary "The Lost Spider Pit Sequence." Presenting the segments are various film historians and filmmakers including Rudy Behlmer, Cooper biographer Mark Cotta Vaz, the Chiodo Brothers (of Team America: World Police special effects fame), and directors John Landis and Peter Jackson. Here you will learn everything you would ever want to know about the making and importance of King Kong, including that the producer/director team of Cooper and Schoedsack played the pilots who shoot Kong off the Empire State Building. The highly anticipated, long-awaited release of King Kong will meet most viewers' expectations, and exceed everyone's else. --Rob Bracco
Beauty meets beast atop the Empire State Building in one of fantasy cinema's most beloved classics. A film crew's excursion to a remote island where prehistoric monsters still roam leads to the discovery of a 50-foot gorilla who takes a shine to the production's leading lady. Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong, Bruce Cabot, and "Kong, The Eighth Wonder of the World" star; special effects by Willis H. O'Brien. Packaged inside a collectible tin, this limited edition includes lobby card poster reproductions, a souvenir program reproduction, and more. 100 min. Standard; Soundtrack: English; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; audio commentary; featurettes; seven-part "making of" documentary by director Peter Jackson; more. Two-disc set.

Buying Vintage Jewellery- a Simple Guideline
The unique and trendy Vintage jewellery has always been in fashion. These articles of jewellery are valuable collectibles and every woman loves to have these fine historical items. The jewellery of 1920's, 1930's, 1940's and 1950's was very stylish and fascinating and women of that era loved to collect and wear it. This stylish jewellery is still very popular and is liked by everyone. Girls and women die to have antique jewellery items in their collection of jewellery.
When buying the gorgeous Vintage pieces of jewellery, few points should never be ignored. When you are spending your money on valuable items you need to be a bit careful and smart. The first thing to consider is the quality of the article you are buying. High quality jewellery maintains its value over time. And obviously when you are spending money you will want to have a quality item. Quality of the jewellery can be judged by the weight of the item, the prong settings, smooth plating etc. Furthermore, the stones should be genuine and of good quality. A genuine and high quality stone never loses its sparkle and shine. So make sure that the stones are bright and gleaming.
Condition of the item you are buying is another important aspect to consider. The Vintage jewels may not be as new as modern jewellery but it should not look dull and dirty. The antique jewellery usually has an antique look but it should not be in poor condition. Don't buy jewellery items with scratched enamel or worn plating. Darkened and dull stones are a sign of poor condition. Never compromise on the condition of the jewellery. To check the authenticity of the Vintage articles you can get them appraised. These days many jewellery items that are similar to antique items are sold as Vintage items and unfortunately the buyers easily get deceived as they have little or no knowledge about the historical jewellery items.
One way to buy original antique Vintage jewellery is to get some knowledge about them and then go and shop for these lovely pieces. If the item you are purchasing has stones in it then you will have to check the originality of stones as well. You can get the stones inspected by a reputed jeweler. The experts can easily judge the stone's originality. They can also tell you if the stone is real or not and if it is defected. They check the stones carefully using magnifying glass for any cracks or weak points. Moreover the prong setting of the articles should be strong.
Another factor to think about while buying Vintage jewellery is to consider the personality for whom it is being bought. The size, style, color and durability are the features that should be given importance. Always buy the style you like and feel comfortable wearing. Girls usually like delicate and sophisticated jewellery with charming stones. You can also buy Vintage items as gifts. Antique and Vintage jewels can be a very romantic and valuable keepsake. And when this marvelous jewellery is presented in a Vintage box of jewellery it can make an everlasting impression of your present.
