Transferring reel to reel audio tapes to digital?
I have some old reel to reel tapes. Anyone know who can convert them or how I can get them onto CD. I don't have a reel to reel player anymore.
There will be places that offer that service, but it'll cost you (se the link below). If you've got more than one tape to do, it'll likely be cheaper to buy or maybe rent a reel-to-reel player. Maybe a local used stereo store would rent one or agree to buy it back later. Be careful if you buy used without a guarantee or checking it out... after 20 to 40 years, rubber parts like belts or pulleys may have turned into goo.
Anyway, once you have the deck, just plug it into a good quality line level audio input on the PC. If you have a laptop or other computer with poor quality internal audio, a box like the Adstech "Instant Music" is useful. Most audio things (like the "Instant Music" come with recording software, or you can download and use "Audacity" for free.
