"Just three easy steps to a professionally sprayed yard"--that's what the packaging claims on this Gilmour hose end sprayer, and it's the truth. Just fill the bottle, set the dial, and spray. The Gilmour hose end sprayer dilutes as it sprays so you don't have to premix (unless you're using a powdered formula), and the metering dial lets you choose one of 16 dilution rates. We especially liked the little extras: a finger-molded nozzle for comfortable gripping, an unbreakable bottle, a removable deflector so you can switch from spray to stream, and a meticulously written care and instruction booklet. Gilmour's free replacement policy is nice, too. This sprayer is as solid and reliable as they come.

Why We Fight
List Price: $14.99
Sale Price: $8.43
|
|

Fans of Oliver Stone's J.F.K. will recognize the opening moments of writer-director Eugene Jarecki's Why We Fight, in which outgoing President Dwight Eisenhower warns of the pernicious and growing influence of what he called the "military-industrial complex." But Stone's movie, which uses the same footage, was a work of fiction. While those who disagree with the decidedly leftist point of view in this documentary will probably consider it the product of paranoid liberal fantasy as well, there's enough credible material, much of it supplied by the targets of Jarecki's criticisms, to make Eisenhower look like a prophet and everyone else uneasy about the dark confluence of politics, money, and war that controls the country's fortunes. The message here is that while there may be some who sincerely believe that America's various military engagements (in Iraq, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, and elsewhere) since World War II are the product of our God-given duty to spread freedom and halt the influence of evil ideologies around the world, the real reason we fight is that war is good business. This is hardly a bulletin; anyone who is surprised by allegations that politicians pander to defense contractors, or that Vice President Dick Cheney helped secure huge deals for Halliburton, the company he formerly headed, simply hasn't been paying attention (Politicians lie? How shocking!). In fact, the principal drawback to Jarecki's film is simply that there's nothing particularly revelatory or compelling about it. Only when he takes a personal approach does he go beyond the obvious; the story of a retired New York policeman and former Vietnam veteran whose son died in the World Trade Center, who wanted revenge, but who became seriously disillusioned when Bush admitted that the war in Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, adds some much needed human interest. Still, Why We Fight, which includes a director's audio commentary track and a few other bonus features, serves as a grim reminder that the world's most powerful nation has strayed far from the principles of our founding fathers, a development that does not bode well for America's future. --Sam Graham
President Eisenhower's 1961 warning against the dangers of the "military-industrial complex" is put in a contemporary context in this compelling documentary. Using the War in Iraq as a backdrop, the film uses interviews with combat veterans, new recruits, members of Congress, security advisors, and more to examine how U.S. military policies have evolved since World War II. Directed by Eugene Jarecki ("The Trials of Henry Kissinger"). 99 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: French, Portuguese, Spanish; deleted scenes; featurettes; audio commentary; theatrical trailer.

Walt Disney Treasures - On the Front Lines
List Price: $32.99
Sale Price: $33.68

World War II transformed the Disney Studio. Although nearly one-third of the artists had been drafted, production quintupled, up to 95% of it for military and government uses. Some of the films included in On the Front Lines have not been seen since their initial release; others were never shown to the general public. Anticipating the importance of animated training films, Disney produced the studio's first educational film, "Four Methods of Flush Riveting" (1941), using limited animation to train riveters at Lockheed. Decades later, "Four Methods" and the excerpts from military training films remain models of how to present information clearly and concisely. Many of the wartime entertainment shorts are largely propaganda. Donald's nightmare of working on a Nazi assembly line in "Der Fuehrer's Face" is still hilarious slapstick. The grimmer "Education for Death" and "Chicken Little" have aged less gracefully. Disney's oddest wartime project was Victory Through Air Power (1943), a live action/animation feature based on Major Alex de Seversky's controversial book that called for the adoption of long-range bombers. By the time it was finished, air power was a reality. Front Lines also includes several health films made for the Office of Inter-American Affairs, and bond-buying shorts for Canada that reuse animation from Snow White and "Three Little Pigs." This collection of genuine rarities is a must-have for anyone interested in the history of animation, the Disney Studio, or America during WWII. (Rated G, suitable for ages 10 and older: violence, ethnic stereotypes, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Hexagon Fish Tank Light Puts Your Aquarium On Display
When you have found the perfect spot for your aquarium and you have decided how big you want it to be, you now need to decide what shape you want and what sort of lighting you want to display your aquarium. Have you thought what fish tank light you are going to use?
What Type of Fish Tank Light Do You Need?
The fish tank light that you choose will ultimately depend on the fish tank that you choose. There are lots of different types of fish tank light options available and each one has its own uses, and the life of the bulb can vary enormously. Choosing the correct lighting system can go a long way to helping to make your tank look great. A hexagon fish tank light looks stunning when it is in the corner of a room, especially tall upright hexagon fish tanks.
One common fish tank light bulb that has a life of about sixteen weeks and is normally around fifteen to twenty watts is called an incandescent light. This type of light may be a great choice for your hexagon fish tank as it is quite cheap to buy. A great bonus with a light of this type is that it can be purchased in many different colors making this a great choice for a hexagon fish tank light. These incandescent lights are often used for small fish or a beginner's start up kit. Its limitations include a high amount of heat output, and a narrow spectrum light. Again this is perfect light for a hexagon fish tank as small fish are preferred.
An alternative fish tank light that is popular is the fluorescent light. This type of bulb has a lower wattage amount than the incandescent light and is very cheap. This light also has a wide range of colors and sizes. A florescent bulb can be used in both a freshwater and saltwater aquarium and this fish tank light is probably the one most often used amongst aquarium enthusiasts.
Another variation on the standard fluorescent fish tank light is the T-5 HO Fluorescent light. Its wattage is comparable to the standard light, but it can last much longer, as much as two years total shine time. Needless to say if you don't want to change your bulbs frequently, and your reef tank is less than twenty four inches deep, this choice could very well be the best one for you. This type would not be suitable for a hexagon fish tank light due to the depth of this type of aquarium.
If your fish tank or reef tank is deeper than 24 inches, perhaps the easiest and best choice for a fish tank light available to you is that of a metal halide light. These lights have very high wattage, mainly between 70 and 1000 watts, and can last six to eighteen months. A fish tank light this powerful though, does have a few problems associated with it that should be considered. It can produce a higher overall heat and may require a chiller to keep the temperature of your tank at the correct level.
No matter which fish tank light you choose make sure it's one that will fit your tank and you needs best. Be sure to weigh all your options, and talk with the professionals at the aquarium store. If you have not yet bought your hexagon fish tank, this may not be the best option for you. Although it looks stunning, careful consideration as to what fish you put in it needs to be taken into account.

What can i use to power an air pump with no electricity outlets near by?
I need to run an air pump where there is no electricity from an outlet available... what can i use to power a simple fish tank air pump for about 2 months? a car battery? solar power? ect... and how do i set these systems up?
I've found your solution! ON e-bay they have a battery powered air pump it uses 2 D-cell batteries. they probably won't last for two month's though. Also, I think many air pumps use a "wall wart". that is a voltage reducing transformer that looks like a little box which plugs right into your outlet. So the actual voltage going to the pump may only be 6 volts or 12. if you look at the wall wart it will tell you the input voltage and output voltage. just remove the box and feed the appropriate battery voltage directly to the pump.
