January 1, 2008, swimming pool pumps that are added or replaced are mandated to have at least 2 speeds or more. If the pump is rated below one horse power, it will not be required to have multi speeds. The rotation rate of the low speed has to be no more than one-half of the motors maximum rotation rate. This is according to California's Title 20 Code of Regulations. The regulation solely applies to the pool filter pump. If you have other water features or spas that demand a separate pump, they will not have to be replaced. As a pool builder, contractor in the Sacramento area, I prefer to use the multi speed pumps. I'm often asked what the electrical savings would be on these variable speed pumps. Here is a popular example of how much you can save with a 20,000 gallon pool that has an electrical rate of .15 per kilowatt per hour by using a variable speed swimming pool pump. The water in your pool should be circulated through your filter at least one time in a 24 hour period:
1) If you currently have a 1 hp pool pump it needs approximately 5.3 hours to circulate 20,000 gallons of water in a 24 hr period. At a rate of .15 kilowatt per hour the costs would be $458.40 per year.
2) If you have a 1 1/2 hp pool pump it takes approx. 3.9 hours to circulate that same water. At .15 kilowatt per hour, that comes to $438.89 per year.
3) Now with the multi speed pump, you can take ten hours to circulate 20,000 gallons of water at a cost of $114.43 per year.
There are several electrical utility companies offering rebates when these multi speed pumps are being installed. This only makes them more attractive. Besides saving you some money on your utilities, the multi speed pumps have many other advantages. The Starite Intellipro 4x160 multi speed pump is so quiet that several of my pool customers have called me asking if the pump is actually working properly. It is one of the quietest pumps on the market today. Another benefit is you no longer need that booster pump for your pool sweep. Typically, you can set one speed for the filter and another for the cleaner. That leaves you with two more speeds to maybe add solar and or a water feature. In my opinion, these facts make the multi speed pumps a much wiser alternative that than the two speed pumps.

The Advantages Of Speed Reading
Speed reading is a skill that can come in very handy, especially these days when people are constantly bombarded with information that needs to be understood. For decades, the Evelyn Wood reading courses have taught people how to become proficient at being able to read faster. In some ways, people must first un-learn some of the things they were taught in grammar school about reading, in order to gain an improvement.
The experts in the field say that anyone can learn how to read fast and develop better comprehension at the same time. The skill of learning to speed read is not limited to people with a high reading IQ, or to anyone who might be considered a reading genius. Indeed, the experts insist that any person who puts forth the effort to learn the fundamentals of reading faster and then uses those principals, can become a reading speedster.

Developing speed reading skills is very much like any skill one wants to master, in that one must practice the techniques on a regular basis. This can be particularly challenging for people who must read in their work or school, because during the period when the new skills are not developed, it is tempting to lean on old reading habits. This can slow down the progress of integrating the new reading methods, but is worth the effort in the end if you want to speed your read!

Best high speed multi-communication method at lowest cost.?
I am in USA zip code 10925 and am helping a friend set up a multi-purpose link to the internet, handle voice telephone communications, and also be able to do credit/debit card transaction processing, maintain their website, etc. all through one link up which me guessing, will probably turn out to be a cable link up. Verizon access is available as well as satellite. Note: dial up service via the phone company (Verizon) is too slow. We want to also stay away from Verizon if at all possible due to past bad experiences.
Can anyone recommend the proper configuration by cable, telephone, or satellite supplier (company) and the related monthly costs and if any contract is needed? Also, what specific equipment is needed? They already have a PC.
Also want to receive premium TV channels a lowest cost.
In terms of connection type, it can vary. For example, I live in 10958 (just around the corner from you) and can only get DSL through Frontier, as I'm too far from the nearest cable lines. Satellite, in my opinion, is only a last resort option.
It sounds like you're setting this up for a business, so I would recommend an ADSL (asymetric DSL) line from the phone provider. ; more reliable connection with dedicated bandwidth. However, it can be rather expensive. I know you also don't want to deal with Verizon, but their business account support and reps are much better to deal with then personal account support.
Next on the list would be a cable connection. Good overall speed, but this can vary depending on the amount of local traffic.
You'll have to double check your cable provider (or give the name) to get an idea of the pricing.
The company providing the connection generally provides a modem, but I would place a router after that. This would enable the incoming signal to be split among multiple machines and also provide a level of defence against outside intrusions.
For Voice needs, Voice Over IP (VOIP) is the only way to do. I have multiple lines with Vonage, and love them. Great price, features set and reliability. Only lost a connection with them once in 2+ years of using them...and that was back up within minutes.
**Update: Cable connection than...get your channels through that. Do not go with a carrier provided VOIP solution. They cost more than they are worth.
**Update 2: I'm sorry, but Soon's has the best unpasteurized apple cider around.
