Donegan OptiVISOR
|
|
|
The Donegan OptiVISOR is a hands-free, headband binocular magnifier that has optical glass lenses that are ground and polished into prismatic lenses for quality and clarity, and is available in multiple dioptric strengths (indicated by the number in the model) which provide specific magnification power (X) at specific focal lengths, or distance from object. This magnifier enhances the size and resolution of an object or image, and is commonly used for a variety of applications such as jewelry-making, watch- making, needlework, artwork, electronic inspection, book-reading, print inspection, and stamp-collecting. The OptiVISOR magnifier features replaceable binocular lenses that have beveled edges that are mounted in an interchangeable plastic frame. An adjustable headband with padded leather comfort band conforms to a variety of head sizes and provides comfort for hours of continuous use. It can be worn over prescription or safety eyeglasses. A durable, plastic visor tips up above the forehead when not in use. Spring-loaded pivot screws hold the headband in a raised or a forward-facing position. The magnifier weighs 0.67 lbs., and comes housed in a protective shell and carrying case. It has a one-year limited warranty. Diopter (D) is a technical term for the measurement of the light curvature and thickness of a lens. A dioptric number and a magnification number are not the same thing. Diopter strength represents a specific magnification power (X). For example, a 5-diopter provides 2.5X magnification (at a distance of 8â). See the magnification chart. The higher the diopter, the more magnification a lens can provide. As magnification increases, distance to the object (focal length), and field of view (diameter, or narrowness of view) decreases. Magnifiers and prescription eyeglasses have a diopter value, such as 1.5 or 2. The dioptric strength of an accessory lens, such as prescription eyeglasses or an eye loupe, must be added to the dioptric strength of the magnifier to calculate total magnification. Magnifiers are devices used to enlarge the visual appearance of an object or image. Magnifiers come in a variety of styles such as hand-held, headband, standing, clip-on, eye loupe, and those that hang in a necklace form, or fit in a trouser pocket. Magnifiers are commonly made of plastic or glass. They can have one or more lenses with varying magnification abilities, and can have a binocular configuration with a single lens, or two separate lenses. They are sometimes used with LED or fluorescent light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Magnifier ability is often expressed as magnification at a specific length. For example, 1.75X at 14â means that when a magnifier is held at 14â from a viewerâs eyes, the object will be magnified 1.75 times (X) its actual size. As magnification increases, viewing areas and focal length decrease. Magnifiers sometimes have a diopter number, expressed as + or -D, which is a measurement of strength (or power) of the lens. Some magnifiers are marked with a dioptric number on the lens. A high diopter number has a higher magnification than a low diopter number. Aspheric magnifiers, unlike spheric magnifiers, produce a sharp image to the edge of the lens for less distortion. Magnifiers are widely used in jewelry inspection and fabrication, watch-making, needlework, artwork, reading, print inspection, and stamp-collecting. Determining Magnification Diopter Magnification Focal length (Distance from object) Sample view 20/20 vision 20" (50.8cm) 2-diopter lens 1.50X 20" (50.8cm) 3-diopter lens 1.75X 14" (35.56cm) 4-diopter lens 2.00X 10" (25.4cm) 5-diopter lens 2.50X 8" (20.32cm) 7-diopter lens 2.75X 6" (15.24cm) 10-diopter lens 3.50X 4" (10.16cm) Donegan Optical manufactures and distributes precision visual devices for hobbyists and professionals in industry, home, office and crafts applications. Ceiling Fans: Get a Head Start on Choosing a Ceiling Fan by Learning the Basics of Mounting!
Ceiling Fans: Get a head start on Choosing a Ceiling Fan by Learning the Basics of Mounting!
At Electric Fan we are dedicated to relieving you from the heat with high-end cooling units that work quickly and efficiently without disturbing your life with loud noise. From small, personal desk fans, to powerful swamp coolers and portable air conditioners, we have what you are looking for at a price you can afford.
Mounting: The first step with a new ceiling fan is mounting, which simply refers to the attachment of your ceiling fan to the surface of a ceiling. To make it easier it is a good idea to become familiar with a few terms and options when choosing the right ceiling fan for you. This will ensure that your fan will hang properly and as low as you would like it to. Mounting also effects the operation of a ceiling fan in certain ways. Certain methods of mounting allow for the fan to more closely direct air to the people in a room and some methods allow for more flexibility in movement.
Downrod: A downrod is really a very simple piece of equipment. Made of wood, metal, or plastic, the downrod is simply a rod that hangs from the ceiling, allowing your ceiling fan to hang lower from the ceiling’s surface. Some prefer this only for the look of a lower fan and some would like the breeze of the fan to be stronger, but for either reason a downrod will correctly lower your fan safely and effectively.
Ball and socket mounting: This is a type of mounting where a ball-shaped apparatus is attached to a downrod, with the fan body and blades hanging from the ball. This makes it possible for the fan to move easier than it would with other methods of mounting.
Hugger Mounting: Hugger model fans are simply fans mounted close to the ceiling, that will seem as though they are clinging to or “hugging” the ceiling directly. This can also be referred to as the close-to-ceiling-mount.
Dual Mounting: Fans that feature dual mounting are able to be mounted close to the ceiling or from a downrod. You can decide after purchasing your fan, which is optimal if you would like to see how the fan looks on the ceiling first. Downrods are inexpensive and can easily be applied to dual mounting fans for aesthetic purposes; for cathedral ceilings, a fan lowered with a downrod can provide an appearance of grandeur and luxury. Plus a lowered fan brings the breeze of your ceiling fan closer to you, for a slightly more concentrated or stronger breeze.
Blade irons/brackets: Blade irons attach your ceiling fan blades to the motor, connecting the fan together after it is mounted.
J-hook and claw hook: With this type of mounting a metal hook secures to the ceiling, so that your fan will be directly attached to the material of the ceiling wall/
Low ceiling adapter: A low ceiling adapter is a kit which accomplishes the same thing as a downrod. Usually made of brass or another metal, a low ceiling adapter kit attaches directly from the ceiling and omits the need for lowering the fan at all as it automatically hangs a little farther down with the adapter.
Once your fan is mounted you can add lights to make your ceiling fan serve more than one purpose and be an even better addition to your home. Lights can be added while mounting the fan, and there are three types of lighting methods to choose from: downlights, uplights, or one of the popular light kits. Uplights and downlights are just as they sound with uplights pointing toward the ceiling, and downlights pointing toward the center of the room. Each provides a slightly different effect. Uplights emanate an aura-like gleam to dress up a ceiling, and downlights brighten an entire room with a radiant glow. Light kits also come with many ceiling fans and can be classified as a type of downlight. The light kit replaces any central lighting that was previously hanging from the ceiling.
Make sure you decide which type of mounting and lighting you are interested in before you make your final ceiling fan purchase.

How do I mount a power panel on a poured cement wall basement?
This is a below ground basement that has a big board that the panel is mounted on. Is this still the way it's done? How do I mount the board to the wall?
Yes, michael. Things to point out- If you use a ramset (the above mentioned that uses shells to drive a nail into the wall) get the right shot for it. Which will depend on the concrete and how old it is- green shot will do its best to bust through concrete block, but barely makes it into our 90 yr old slab.
If using tapcon, beg steal or borrow a hammer drill. Even with a masonary bit, a regular drill take too long and just doesn't have enough torque- it ends up making a hole in which the screws sometimes stick and usually wobble and fall back out. Anchors, in my personal experience, have been pretty useless on concrete. A masonry screw is either going to set well or not, and the anchors don't seem to be any different. Once we got a hammer drill, projects became so much easier!
Treated wood behind the panel would be good. And that said, a Ramset, nails for treated wood (they have a coating so the go through better and last longer), and some shot will be your easiest solution.
I'm sure it's not up to date, but we have 2 elec panels, and both are mounted directly to the concrete- but it's above ground. Not sure about basement stuff, since no one has basements this close to the coast!
