Backup Tapes - Maynstream Disgital Cassette 600 by Maynard Electronics?
Our CFO asked me to get data off of data tapes from 1993 and put it into a current format like DVD or on a Hard drive (Maynstream Disgital Cassette 600 by Maynard Electronics) They are 150MG cassette tapes. Anyone know how to get the data off of these tapes?
Do you have a system with a drive capable of using the tapes? If not, acquiring a drive may be a problem. A quick Google search showed a lot of refurbished/used drives, but from past experience most of those will probably lead to a dead end. Migrating data to newer formats is recommended as newer devices become available, otherwise you run into situations like this. Granted you probably inherited the problem, but you can use it as a point of discussion with your CFO.
The original company has been through a few purchases and mergers over the years. If those tapes are anything like the QIC150 tapes or 9 track tapes I used at the time, the technology to read them won't be easy to find. You may need to consult with data recovery specialist who may know of a company that specializes in recovering data off old media.
