Sale Price: $8.39

Mint condition cover and disc of musical performances from 1964 by The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, The Supremes, Lesly Gore, The Rolling Stones and more. (Region 1 US & Canada)
Filmed in 1964 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, this is arguably the very best rock-concert movie ever made, packed start to finish with nearly two hours of absolutely essential performances by an unprecedented group of American and British rock, pop, soul, and Motown legends. Dig this lineup: Marvin Gaye, the Supremes (look for Teri Garr as one of the dancers during "Where Did Our Love Go?"), Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Leslie Gore, Jan and Dean, a phenomenal James Brown and the Flames, followed (!) by the Rolling Stones rising to the occasion after Brown's legendary performance (Keith Richards has said that performing after Brown was perhaps the biggest mistake the band ever made). Never released on home video, The T.A.M.I. Show was the holy grail of rock-concert movies. Those who have had to make do with substandard and incomplete bootlegs will agree that it was worth the wait for this collector's edition that restores the long-lost Beach Boys set (listen to director Steve Binder's audio commentary for the story behind its removal). --Donald Liebenson

Response Magazine reported recently that free-standing insert (FSI) coupons emerged as a key component in promotional programs of many manufacturers and retailers during 2009 with more than 272 million pieces dropped. But what was the coupon redemption rate in 2009?
Well, it seems many cent-off coupons were put to use. The Experian Simmons National Consumer Survey showed that 7 out of 10 households used coupons in 2009. Although most were looking to save money, others used coupons to try new products. One out of two consumers claimed they used FSIs cent-off coupons, placing this coupon category at the top followed by coupons received by mail, found in packages, magazines, on the Internet or handed out in or near stores.
For many years, coupon redemption among Hispanic consumers has been reported to be lower than the general population due to a number of factors including cultural barriers, lack of familiarity with the redemption process, different product preferences, wrong distribution channels, requirement of multiple purchases, low coupon face value, and refusal to accept coupons by stores frequented by Hispanics, among others.
However, the last couple of years in a down economy may have help Hispanics to get with the program. In 2009 Hispanics weren't too far behind the average non-Hispanic household as 6 out of 10 Hispanic households used coupons, with Puerto Ricans leading the way (67%), followed by Cubans (62%), other households of Hispanic heritage (60%) and Mexicans (57%). Nearly 4 out of 10 Hispanic consumers used coupons inserted in newspapers (FSIs) and 3 out of 10 used coupons received by mail.
Given the diversity and expected growth of the Hispanic population in the US from 15% in 2009 to 30% in 2050, there is a big opportunity for manufacturers and retailers to introduce new products to Hispanics with the help of coupons. The key is to develop research-based promotional programs - with a coupon component - that appeal to the diversity of the Hispanic market in the US. Sensitivity towards cultural differences based on country of origin, product preferences, regional variations of the Spanish language, and levels of acculturation, among other factors, can send coupons to the trash can or get Hispanic consumers to try new products.

Natural Family Planning Now Seen as Earth-Friendly Birth Control, Says Time Magazine
Personal health isn’t the only benefit of Natural Family Planning (NFP) these days.
Those concerned with the environment are finding that NFP doesn’t pollute the waterways with synthetic hormones and other chemicals.
A recent Time magazine author related how NFP rates high for such reasons. “Like all good Catholics, my husband and I had to attend church-run marriage prep before we tied the knot last year,” wrote Kathleen Kingsbury in Time’s Oct. 26 issue.
“I was surprised, however, during the hard sell on natural family-planning, that this updated version of the rhythm method was being advertised not only as morally correct but also as ‘organic’ and ‘green.’ I was even more surprised when I found out that some of the most popular instructors of NFP — known in secular circles as the Fertility Awareness Method — are non-Catholics who praise it as a means of avoiding both ingesting chemicals and excreting them into rivers and streams.”
The article, sprinkled with terms such as phthalates and bisphenol, also looks into the use of chemicals in the makeup of sex toys and tracks a trend of earth-friendly production materials in these products.
The article also says that the Catholic Church is catching on to the organic trend. "People pay $32 for eye cream because they're told it is good for them and the planet," says Jessica Marie Smith, whom Time says repackaged the NFP program at the diocese of Madison, WI. "We figured we could do the same with NFP."
Ingest, Poke and Patch
In an article on the Madison diocese’s website, “Green is the New Black: How NFP is good for your soul and the earth,” Smith, the diocese’s family planning coordinator, says, “Doesn’t it seem interesting that we’ll go to great lengths to ensure our meat, dairy and other grocery products are ‘all natural’ and hormone free, but then we’ll turn around and ingest, poke or patch our bodies with all sorts of synthetic hormones, the ramifications of which we’re still discovering?”
Classes in the Sympto-Thermal Method of Natural Family Planning are offered by the Couple to Couple League (CCL) to married and engaged couples, and can be taken at 15 locations in the Archdiocese of Chicago, IL and surrounding area, including southeast Milwaukee and northwest Indiana. A homestudy course is also available at CCL Central.
The next series of classes in northeast Illinois will begin Fri., Jan. 29, 2010 at 7:30 pm at Holy Family Hospital in Des Plaines. To register, and for a list of classes, go to CCL Central Registration. For more information, go to CCL Chicago.
