D-Link DUB-E100 USB 2.0 Fast Ethernet Adapter
List Price: $29.99
Sale Price: Too low to display
|
|
|
The D-Link DUB-E100 is a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 10/100Mbps Fast Ether Adapter specifically designed to plug into an available Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on a desktop or laptop PC running Microsoft Windows XP Me 2000 or 98. Based on USB 2.0 the DUB-E100 extends the transfer speed of earlier USB Fast Ether adapters to true 10/100Mbps connectivity. As a USB device the D-Link DUB-E100 eliminates the need to use an ISA PCI or PC Card slot to add LAN connectivity to a PC desktop or laptop puter. Installation and use are further simplified by living up to USB's out-of-the-box installation approach to connecting puter peripherals. You will not need to open the case of your puter nor will you be required to set IRQs. The D-Link DUB-E100 represents the simplest way to connect your puter to an Ether-based work. The D-Link DUB-E100 provides a standard RJ-45 connector for a quick and simple method of connecting to an Ether 10Mbps or Fast Ether 100Mbps-based LAN via a work hub or switch. The single type "B" USB port enables it to be connected directly to a USB host puter or a USB Hub. Power for the DUB-E100 is provided directly by the USB bus eliminating the need for an external power adapter. It also supports USB's energy saving suspend and resume functions to minimize power consumption which is especially useful for laptop/notebook users. If you've already been on the frugal path for awhile, it's hard to believe that there are ways that you can be even more frugal.
But it's true. Following are some ideas that people have used to save money that are a bit on the crazy side. I don't necessarily recommend them, but they're up for consideration if you are hoping to save even more money.
- Get your furniture for free. You may have to do without for some time, but always try to hold out and get things for free. You can check out Craigslist or your local Freecycle. Or you can simple drive around town on garbage night and see what's available for the taking.
- Teach your cat to use toilet. Pets can be very expensive and one unnecessary expense is kitty litter. With a bit of effort, you can train your cat to use the toilet. Over the lifetime of your cat, this adds up to quite a bit of savings.
- Collect cans and bottles. If you're lucky enough to live in a state that offers a refund for recyclable cans and bottles, collect empties from around town. You never know where people are throwing them out. Check large apartment buildings especially. I once got more than $15 from bottles that someone was throwing out.
- Shower just once a week. Showering uses a lot of water, not to mention soap, shampoo and conditioner. If you shower just once a week, you will save money on these things.
- Sleep with the sun. If you adjust your body to sleep when the sun sets and wake up when it rises, you won't have to pay money for electricity needed to light your home in the evening and nighttime.
Obviously these ideas are quite extreme and they are not recommended for the average frugal person. But they are perfect for those who wish to take things a bit further.
Want to read even more extreme savings tips? Would you like to build a better nest egg? Are you sick of living paycheck to paycheck?

Report reveals 1 in 5 young people drive without insurance
According to a report published by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), a fifth of young motorists are driving without insurance.
MIB is funded by motor insurers and set up to compensate those involved in accidents with uninsured drivers. The organisation has estimated that 250,000 people aged between 17 and 20 drive without any insurance in place.
The report also found that a tenth of young drivers claim not to be aware that car insurance is compulsory, and that this age group are four times more likely to be involved in claims.
Chief executive of the MIB - Ashton West, said: "Young people make up a significant number of uninsured drivers, and with one in five newly qualified drivers having an accident in the first year of driving they need to make choices based on the consequences of driving without insurance and not just on price alone."
A17 year old male can expect to pay as much as £2,000-£3,000 per year for car insurance, which according to the report puts many people off.
"While we recognise the financial pressures for drivers taking to the roads for the first time, it is also a criminal offence to drive without proper insurance cover," West said.
Those caught driving without insurance policies could be fines, receive up to 8 point on their licence and even have their vehicle seized, and if an uninsured driver were to cause a fatality they could face a two year prison sentence. Every year, around 230,000 people are convicted for driving without insurance in the UK alone.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said: "I'm not surprised at these figures, even though it is shocking to see this statistic confirmed.
"Uninsured driving is not a victimless crime. Young drivers are 10 times more likely to be involved in a collision than more experienced drivers. If they have no insurance, any claim has to be met by the MIB, which in turn is funded by honest insurers."
If an insured driver is involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, the insured driver would have to make a claim against their own policy to repair damaged, resulting in future premiums to go up, while having to pay any excess and also losing any existing no claims bonus.

Taking my cat on an airplane?
i am leaving for another town about 2-3 hrs flight from where i am now. I would love to take my cat with me but i only have a couple of days to prepare. IS this enough time? What are the requirements of taking my cat? Is it going to be difficult? I'm still going to be in the same state and not leaving the country or anything. We're moving from Townsville, Queensland to Mt. Isa, Queensland. Any help would be great!
PS - I'm flying because i need to start wrk on the Thurs morning and driving would take 9 hrs.
Also, I'm not getting him sedated for the flight. Will this be a problem?
Smart move in not getting him sedated. A lot of cats can have a bad reaction to this with the change in altitude. Your kitty should be just fine. I moved from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Seattle, WA and my three cats endured about 8 hours of flying and a two hour layover. They were in the crates for about 13-14 hours and though a bit pissed at me when we finally got to our destination showed no ill effects from the trip.
As for "requirements" check with the airline. I had to get a pre-flight physical for my pets from my vet. They also all had to wear collars with tags and fly in airline-approved crates. I'm not sure what Australian rules are so call your specific airline to make sure you do everything/get everything you need in time for your flight.
