Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic takes place just a few years after the Mandolorian Wars, thousands of years before the events in the Star Wars movies we know and love. Two Jedi, master Revan and his apprentice Malak, led the Republic's forces to victory and pursued the Mandalorians into deep space only to return as Dark Jedi at the head of a huge fleet of Sith warships. Only the Force powers of the Jedi Bastila prevented the Sith from overwhelming the Republic's weakened forces. At the start of the game Malak has usurped control of the Sith by betraying Revan and has attacked the ship carrying Bastila and yourself. In true Star Wars style, the game begins with a bang. The storyline could have been a standard coming-of-age yarn but is instead a genuinely interesting adventure told with humor, compassion, and respect for the source material. Your character has a mystical bond with Bastila, and the two of you share some kind of connection to the Sith villains Darth Malak and Darth Revan. The game's planet-hopping adventures are driven by your exploration of these connections and how they relate to your larger goal of discovering the source of the Sith's sudden fleet. During your adventure you can explore side quests minor (such as racing swoops or gambling) and major (such as uncovering the fascinating back stories of your companions). Star Wars fans will get a kick out of the rich lore introduced in the game, particularly the Tatooine storyline that reveals the origin and history of the Sand People. Gameplay is an abbreviated form of Wizards of the Coast's d20 Star Wars RPG game system--anyone who has played Dungeons & Dragons will be familiar with the abilities, stats, feats, and bonuses in this game. The player creates a character as a member of one of three starting classes (soldier, smuggler, scout) and then later chooses a Jedi class (guardian, consular, sentinel). Joining the player's character are other Jedi, warriors, thieves, droids, a wookiee, and even a Mandolorian. Unlike the faceless non-player characters of other games, each member of the supporting cast has an intriguing history and even agenda. Up to two of these other characters can join your character at any time. Depending on who you chose to take with you, new dialogue and even intra-party arguments come into the game (put the Mandalorian veteran with the Republic patriot and you'll see sparks fly). Combat is real-time turn-based, meaning the turns are seamless but the player has the option of pausing the action at any time to issue orders or direct any character to use a certain Force power, ability, feat, or item. Graphics range from adequate to exceptional. Building and character models are not impressive--about what you get in GTA 3. Lightsaber graphics and environmental effects (like waving grass, clouds, and weather) bring the world to life. Battles are just brilliant, with characters pumping out blaster fire at Jedi who dash, dodge, and even deflect the bolts back toward their assailants. Complete with sounds straight out of the movies, the thrilling combat is pure Star Wars. All in all, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a masterpiece of Star Wars gaming. The pacing, balance of action and dialogue, clever puzzles and quests, and loving attention to detail have set the bar very high for role-playing games in general and Star Wars games in particular. Consider this a must-have game.--Mike Fehlauer Pros: Captivating storyline Clever dialogue Star Wars feel True story and dialogue support for either Light Side or Dark Side play Brilliant combat graphics Fascinating characters (the loyal--and homicidal--droid HK-47 is truly unique) Cons: Occasional bugs in dialogue, movie playback Cannot transfer equipped gear between characters while on your ship

Rune (Mac)
List Price: $19.95

Combine the Unreal Tournament 3-D engine with hard-nosed Viking melee combat and what do you get? You get Rune, an epic third-person action game from Human Head Studios. You take on the role of Ragnar, a young warrior spared from death by Odin but who must fight his own way up from the underworld to defend his village and exact revenge upon the dark Vikings who killed his father. Set in grim, exceptionally well-designed environments ranging from ancient crypts full of undead warriors to a towering mechanical Dwarven city, Rune mixes typical first-person shooter gameplay with the rigors of close-quarter melee combat. Instead of the shotguns and rocket launchers you've mastered in other games, you will find yourself armed only with an array of swords, hammers, and axes in Rune. Combat with these weapons is very different--and very challenging, particularly in the game's latter levels and against multiple opponents. The graphics in Rune are excellent, with an exceptional attention to detail on just about every level. The lighting is very well done and so are the sound effects used throughout the game. The music is suitably heroic, though it plays too infrequently and loops too quickly. Overall, the game does a marvelous job of setting the mood for head-smashing Viking combat. There are even some nifty gameplay twists that keep you in the proper frame of mind. When you're wounded, for example, you can drink mead, scarf down a leg of mutton, or grab and eat a lizard off any nearby wall to gain some health back. And when Ragnar is done drinking his mead, he smashes the cup on the floor. He deals with crates, barrels, and many doors in his path the same way. While the single-player game is outstanding--and features one of the flat-out coolest game-won reward sequences ever--the multiplayer action is where you can really test your sword-fighting skills. Although the game includes 43 single-player levels and only seven multiplayer maps, Rune has proven to be quite popular online, with up to 16 players going at it in wild melee combat. The only disappointment in Rune may be the fact that it does not offer any computer-controlled bots for solo deathmatch play. Even without the bots, Rune is easily one of the year's top games in any genre and an intense epic that no action fan should be without. --Michael Ryan Pros: Intense melee action using the Unreal Tournament engine Epic story line set in the land of Vikings and Nordic mythology Excellent level design, with impressive attention to detail Great graphics, sound, and music Cons: An occasional AI flaw will halt action on some levels No bots for multiplayer mode
Rune is a game of epic melee and exploration. You will explore vast regions from the cavernous underworld, home to unspeakable horrors that stalk the darkness, to the mountains of the Dark Vikings and into the forests that guard the entrance to the realms of the Dwarves and beyond. The game will focus on melee combat, with players using swords, axes, knives, and clubs in their quest to solve the secret of the Dark Vikings, who have begun a savage campaign to wipe out their Viking brethren. As a third-person action game, players will see the equipment and weapons that Ragnar carries as he explores the beautiful scenery of Nordic legend. As Ragnar, you will be able to take the weapons of those you vanquish, increasing your inventory as you near your goal. You will have to think carefully, however, as you will only be able to take what you can carry, and discretion may sometimes be the better part of valor when you are facing the horrific abominations that populate the underworld. You will even be able to use makeshift weapons, such as a torch, rock, or bone.
This third-person action/adventure game is steeped in Norse mythology. Players assume the role of Ragnar the Viking, mightiest warrior of a bygone age. In an age when might makes right, it is Ragnar who doles out justice on the blade of his massive battle-axe. Players explore beautiful settings both above and below the mountains of the far north as Ragnar fights his way through several stunning and unique kingdoms to an ultimate confrontation with the Sark Amen, the shadowy warrior-masters of the netherworld.Rune is a third-person perspective game of intense action and adventure steeped in a blend of Norse mythology and high fantasy. Players have to use their brains as well as their massive brawn to survive as they explore the fully 3D game world fighting off fantastic creatures from both Norse legend and the fertile minds of the Human Head staff with their array of swords, axes and magical devices. The game focused on equal parts melee combat and exploration, with levels ranging from a Viking town to the caverns of the Dwarves to a city in the mountains. Players have access to a array of melee weapons based both in fact and fantasy as Ragnar delves deeper into the realms of myth and further from his old reality. Rune included a full single-player game as well as several specially designed multiplayer levels that allow players to cooperate or compete as Ragnar or another Viking warrior. The multiplayer game also included special handicap and team modes to widen the multiplayer experience. System Requirements: (MAC only)MAC OS 8.1PCI PowerMac (including IMac 2nd generation machine)Hardware Accelerated 3D video card (supporting OpenGL) - 6MB or betterRAM: 64MBCD-ROM; 4xDisk Space: 400MBSupports Internet Connection (TCP/IP - 28.8Kbp)

Playing Genius With Your Computer
In such a case the question will become: Can the PCI Express 8x offer enough bandwidth for PCIe 16x graphics cards perform at their peak?
The short answer is simply, yes the PCI Express can!
Truth is, having full 16x SLI support has no real performance benefits over an 8x SLI setup, so again this is something gamers are surely not going to miss out on.
A test was done involving the SLI GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards to the P5N-E SLI and compared it to the Striker Extreme and P5N32-E SLI (another more expensive 680i offering by ASUS) with the same hardware configuration. The results are very interesting as it somewhat equaled the more expensive board.
As everything you have on the PC sometime you need the motherboard, but you need to consider these components when buying a motherboard. If you have a lot of devices with a PCI interface that you wish to use, there is little point buying a motherboard that only offers you 3 PCI slots.
As expected for an ASUS board, the P5N-E SLI's motherboard design lay out is very good, but not perfect. The southbridge has been left exposed without any form of cooling (although this is not much of an issue) and overclocking the P5N-E SLI may scare away some enthusiasts. The fan-less board design is an innovative. Its north bridge heatsink is very large though, allowing it to gather plenty of air-flow circulating around the case. Also the PCI Express slots were spaced far to each other unlike dual 8800 GTX boards
The Marvell 88E1116 controller is what drives the single on-board Gigabit LAN. Aside from having four internal SATA300 ports situated at the motherboard there is also a single eSATA port for portable hard drives.
The The ASUS P5N-E SLI's 6-channel audio support comes from a Realtek ALC883 CODEC using audio sensing and enumeration technology. Plus it also has two Firewire (IEEE1394a) ports, one of which is located on the I/O panel. Besides these the P5N-E SLI includes a long list of ASUS brand features such as Q-Connector, O.C. Profile, Q-Fan2 and many others.
The features that have made PC's so popular will never go away. Some people can live with a specialized appliance, and a lot of the PC market may shift to other products. However, many of us still want to have our own computer. The highest performance and newest software is likely to always be introduced first on the PC.
Tests were made in an attempt to learn what features and options could have been had been removed from the P5N-E SLI to cause such a difference in price. It was tested head to head with the ASUS 680i SLI and the results were astounding as it appeared that very little has been sacrificed when creating the P5N-E SLI.
P5N-E SLI boards are physically different and use NVidia chipset.s, they can give almost the exact performance. Though not very easy to configure, overclocking on the P5N-E SLI has been proven to be excellent and there remains a great potential for better results too.

Power supply and PCI-E video card wattage question?
Hey guys, i need some info from you serious tech-heads. I just bought an ATI X1900GT PCI-E...i'm planning to buy a Dell Dimension 9200 (so i can use the card). I'm a bit worried, the manual says the computer should have a 450watt+ power supply and a 12v special connector. Now the connector i'm sure it has since it has a PCI-E x16 slot, but 450watts?
This dimension 9200 only has 375watt, and most of the dell machines i looked all have 375watts - so i'm really confused, do i have to get a 450 watt supply just to run this video card?
Thanks for any help!
.........................
It still works but with less performance!
........................
I suggest you upgrade your power supply. The more power to your pc the better. This mean that your computer will get enough power to run all hardware include your processor and graphic. 500 watt and above would be great for p4 and above!
