And when it's time to grow, add Bluetooth hands-free calling, GPS navigation, satellite radio, and more with Pioneer add-on devices. A versatile touchscreen DVD receiver with wide media support. Click here for a larger image Fun, Customizeable Interface Improved Interface The AVH-P4300DVD features a fun and convenient touch user interface that's a breeze to navigate. Naturally tap, swipe, or drag for intuitive controls. A new user interface makes direct operation stress-free by eliminating complicated layered selection displays, so access to desired functions is smoother and simpler than ever. You can also choose between Full Operation Mode for more control, or a stripped-down Simple Mode with just the basics. Direct Source Selection Switch to another source simply by touching a desired source icon. You can access another targeted source instantly without defaulting back to the menu display. Select among five (Blue/Red/Amber/Green/Violet) colors for the display and 112 different colors to match receiver illumination to the dash. With Dual Decode, the receiver can display JPEG images while it plays music from your USB device or SD memory card. With one touch of the Capture button, you can save a favorite JPEG image as a wallpaper to the receiver. See the Big Picture The AVH-P4300DVD boasts a brilliant 7-inch widescreen color touchscreen display, with WQVGA (480x240) resolution and a 16:9 aspect ratio, for easy navigation of features and a serious foundation for your entertainment. Connectivity and Versatility Versatile Media Playback Play back your favorite CDs and DVDs, along with various digital files: MP3/WMA/AAC audio, DivX/DVD/VCD video, and JPEG images. USB Port/SD Card Slot Connect a USB thumb drive loaded with files, and enjoy playback of files from your digital library. Or do the same with an SD Card, for an even more portable option. iPod Direct Control Connect your iPod/iPhone and enjoy music directly from your device, with complete control of unit functions right from the receiver. If you'd prefer, switch over to "application mode" to control from the iPod/iPhone itself. Pandora Integration Fans of the Internet music service Pandora, rejoice! The AVH-P4300DVD, thanks to Pioneer's new Pandora Ready feature, can give you direct control of Pandora through your iPhone. Launch Pandora on your connected iPhone, and you'll be able to experience Pandora through your receiver, complete with bookmarking and thumbs up/down buttons. Audio/Video Performance Dual-Zone Audio/Video This receiver allows rear seat passengers to enjoy DVD or CD content via additional rear screens and headphones, even while the front passenger and driver operate navigation or listen to audio from other sources simultaneously. Auto EQ It's difficult to reproduce music well in a car, because speaker positioning is constrained by interior space and other conditions. These limitations can lead to sound phase distortion, as well as speaker sound reflection against glass and absorption by dashboard and seats. Pioneer's unique Auto EQ feature tailors specific musical characteristics according to your taste, and uses a microphone (the optional CD-M20) to monitor and analyze acoustics, then automatically fine-tunes all frequency bandwidths using front and rear speaker digital parametric equalization. It's similar to the setup feature on many home theaters, and will let you dial things in just right for your vehicle. Sound Center Control optimizes the soundstage for different spots in the vehicle cabin. Above--sound quality deterioration from compressed audio files. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever restores detail, warmth, and clarity. Sonic Center Control More audio obsessiveness from Pioneer--unless a listener is perfectly centered in a car cabin, sound heard from some speakers will lag compared to the sound heard from other speakers. This result in unfocused soundstage and instable frequency characteristics. Sonic Center Control remedies this by adjusting frequency phase and acoustic characteristics by up to 15 steps, providing a clearer, focused soundstage. Advanced Sound Retreiver Hear the detail, warmth, and clarity that the artist originally wanted you to hear from compressed MP3, WMA and AAC files stored on disc, USB device, iPod/iPhone, and portable media players. Pioneer's Advanced Sound Retriever technology restores data (especially high-frequency data) that tends to get lost in the digital compression process. Eight-Band EQ With Pioneer's eight-band graphic equalizer, you can customize the equalization levels to best match the acoustics of your car. MOSFET Amplification The AVH-P4300DVD cranks out 4 channels of 50 Watts with efficient MOSFET amplification, and offers three 4V RCA preamp outputs for growing your system. Bluetooth Ready Add Pioneer's CD-BTB200 Bluetooth adapter to allow for safe, simple, hands-free calling and receiving with most Bluetooth wireless-enabled cell phones. Just touch the cell phone icon in the receiver display for direct access to the Bluetooth display. Special symbols will light up when a Bluetooth connection is established, and pairing is is easy and automatic. 10-key dialing via touchscreen is also now possible on Pioneer receivers. Room to Grow The AVH-P4300DVD gives you a great featureset to begin with, but it's ready to expand to suit your needs. You can add Bluetooth as mentioned above, along with GPS navigation, satellite radio, HD radio, and a rear-view camera in a snap. Start out big, go bigger. Gone are the days of uploading partial maps from your computer to your GPS device: the c340 has them all built in. The unit comes preloaded with Garmin's highly detailed City Select NT street data of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Finding points of interest along your route is made easy with the c340's huge built-in database of nearly six million hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin has also made it easy for users to upload custom points of interest--now you can add school zones or safety cameras to your database. You can even turn on a proximity alert to notify you of upcoming custom points of interest. Garmin really kicks the power of the c340 up a notch with the addition of real-time traffic information. This optional service will display congested areas on a color-coded map, allowing you to avoid traffic by simply pushing a button that calculates a new route. All this wizardry is made possible by the new Garmin GTM 10 receiver that connects to the c340 and other select Garmin products. Note that while the GTM 10 receives digital data from specific FM broadcast stations in select major metro areas throughout the United States and Europe, note that these traffic services are available only in select cities where coverage exists. The service requires the GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver and, in some cases, a subscription to enable these traffic capabilities. What's in the Box StreetPilot c340 receiver with built-in antenna, dual internal speaker system for voice guidance and alerts, vehicle suction cup mount with 12-24 volt adapter, dashboard disk, USB interface cable, preloaded City Select North America NT database, and quick-reference guide.

Is it Time to Outsource? Tell-tale Signs

Insight

Everybody’s doing it. Industry leaders like General Electric and Microsoft — as well as the start up companies that are looking forward to challenging them — are outsourcing offshore. After all, every company’s goal is a lean, agile research and development department that brings innovative products to market rapidly and profitably. As a business plan, outsourcing enables companies to leverage lower labor costs, including wages and health care, and focus on core competencies. Nevertheless, a “they’re doing it so I will, too†decision to outsource is not a good enough reason. Outsourcing can be a powerful, profitable strategy. However, one of the challenges of outsourcing is identifying when outsourcing embedded product research and development projects will deliver the greatest return on your investment.

Long Circle recommends that you heed these tell-tale signs that let you know: It’s time to put outsourcing to work for your company.

Too many projects stuck in the pipeline?

Is your R&D organization under pressure because your sales team is promising your customers products that are stuck in your development pipeline? Leading companies keep innovative products flowing to market. If you’ve got too many projects languishing and you’re facing some of these obstacles, it‘s time to expand your pipeline and your profitability by outsourcing.

• High-value, full-scale development work lags due to lack of resources

• Not generating raw ideas for new products; innovation suffering

• Too busy handling operations; losing focus on your core business

• When you have got to be the first into the market to gain the edge

• A mission-critical project needs your team’s time and energy

• When only 10 out of 20 projects slated for the year get the head count

• A backlog of development work is never touched

Put in the dream team

“There are never enough good people†is especially true in the research and development arm of an organization. Do you have a project that calls for specialized skills which aren't available internally? Perhaps budget constraints prevent you from taking on more employees. Or, maybe your R&D production goes in cycles; sometimes you need more people, sometimes less, and you want to avoid downsizing. Outsourcing lets you keep your development team stable and focused.

If you need a dream team but think it’s out of your reach, outsourcing can make it a reality.

Prioritize and delegate

Where are your priorities? Some people would rather play golf on the weekends and let a lawn service or the teenager down the street cut the grass. In product research and development, there are times when it’s more productive and profitable to let the right outsourcing firm handle some of these projects.

• Maintenance-level work that you want to offload

• Too many legacy products out in the field to be maintained

• A one-time project

• Projects of low value

• Non-core work

Dollars and sense

Experts estimate savings realized in wages by outsourcing can be anywhere from 50 to 80 percent. Outsourcing enables your company to reduce costs when any of these scenarios occur:

• Competitor’s price is lower than yours and you can’t drive down your cost

• A new M & A requires additional resources to handle the integration

• Profit margin is diminishing and shows no signs of improving

• Uncertainty regarding capacity expansion

• Potential for downsizing exists

Start ups stalling

Is your business experiencing growing pains? If your company is a startup, you may have the latest and greatest product, but do you have enough time, money, and people resources to deliver your product to the market before your competitors?

When your new business is growing or just leaving the gate, you can’t afford to lag behind the competition. Consequently, some venture capitalists maximize their investment dollars by requiring a startup business to have an outsourcing strategy.

Outsourcing is a cost-effective way to make your product research and development scalable and more competitive.

China strategy

With over 1.3 billion people, China is the most populous country on earth and evolving rapidly. China is now a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the host of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. Nowadays, “Made in China†means much more than consumer electronics. China is the emerging market of the 21 century and companies that realize how important this market is for their long term business success are scrambling for ways to gain a foothold.

Because of lower wages and a superior talent pool of engineering graduates, research and development outsourcing is a key technology enterprise that is expanding in China. For Fortune 100 companies on down the value chain, offshoring research and development in China is not only a way to increase profit margins, but a way to enter the promising China market and ensure it becomes part of their global strategy.

Conclusion

From pipeline to patents, companies must find ways to speed up their development cycle and get products to market quicker than the competition – or face losing market share.

If your company is facing a time, money, and human resource crunch that’s impacting your embedded product research and development organization, it’s time to take a look at outsourcing.

my D drive doesn't seem to be able to read my discs?

bought my daughter 2 sims expansion packs and the drive can't read them it shows that the drive is empty and now it won't even load the sims, but my other game i brought recently half-life loads fine please help. have tried to download new firmware but mydisc drive is a SONY DVD RW DW-D22A and i can't seem to get anywhere

Is the drive a USB drive that you plug in to the USB port on the computer? If it is, check the cable connecting it to the PC. Or try the disks on another computer. That will tell you if it's the CD's or your DVD drive.
