Extremely Rare
| Account limit of 2000 requests per hour exceeded. |
A dog's teeth are a collection of dental steak-knives, arranged in a jaw capable of delivering a bite force of over 1,000 pounds per square inch. Pretty scary, huh?
Fortunately, domestic dogs, cared for and fed regular meals, have little need to turn their awesome weapons against us. Dog attacks on humans are extremely rare. Dogs would quickly lose their status as 'man's best friend', if it were not so.
Still, dog attacks do happen, often with tragic consequences for both attacker and victim. A dog who bites a human is likely to be put down, and the human may suffer serious injury, or even death.
It is your responsibility as a dog owner to ensure that the scenario described above never happens. So, if you have a dog who bites you need to urgently address the behavior, even if your dog is still a puppy.
Why Dogs Bite
There are many reasons why dogs bite, ranging from dominance issues to abuse.
Often the root cause stems from puppyhood, from a puppy taken away from his litter too early or not socialized as an adolescent.
In other cases it could be triggered by hereditary factors - some breeds are just more likely to bite than others - or by health issues. A dog that is in pain, for example, will often strike out as a defense mechanism.
In yet other cases, aggression may stem from a need to test the pack pecking order. The dog may growl, posture, mark territory and in rare instances, bite if he feels he is vying with you for dominance.
However, by far the biggest factor in aggressive canine behavior is their environment. A dog that has poor living conditions, is treated badly, has little or no socialization, or is regularly attacked by another dog or by his master, is far more likely to bite.
Stopping and Controlling Biting in Dogs
Training a dog not to bite starts in puppyhood. The problem is that many people think that a puppy that bites is cute. What is actually happened is that the puppy is learning to assert his position in the pack, biting to show his dominance.
So, as cute as it is when he grabs your sleeve and and growls like a little buzz-saw, you need to cut it out. A light pinch to the back of the neck and replacing your sleeve with a toy, does the trick.
The next milestone at which a dog may start biting is when he reaches sexual maturity, at about 14 months. At this age the dog may make a renewed bid for pack leadership (especially if he hasn't been neutered).
If this happens you need to reaffirm your position as the pack leader. Be firm and consistent with your dog. Give him some obedience training, and control his walks and feeding.
Do not defer to the dog or allow him to take liberties in the home, as this will only encourage aggressive behavior. However, you should never use any form of corporal punishment. This will only make the problem worse.
If despite your efforts, the dog continues to bite, it is strongly advised that you consult a professional trainer or animal behavioralist.
You should also take whatever common sense measures are appropriate to safeguard your dog, and others. If the dog is prone to attacking other dogs, don't let him off the leash in a public place. If he shows aggression to people, don't leave him unsupervised with strangers, especially children.
A dog that bites is a big challenge and requires close supervision, but the behavior can be changed. Be aware that, depending on the root cause, this may take considerable work. Often the most difficult cases are dogs that have suffered abuse. These dogs, more than most, deserve your patience and persistence.
I would just urge you to be vigilant around any aggressive dog, as a careless moment could have tragic circumstances.

Brass Model Trains â Extremely Unique
For the ultimate collector “Brass Model Trains†may be the perfect choice. These toy model trains are made of solid brass and henceforth have an artistic quality to them. Due to the nature of the material the craftsmanship and uniqueness of the pieces are outstanding. However, there is one slight drawback to the Brass Model Trains, the cost. The old saying “you get what you pay for†is not only fact but also the standard. Brass Model Trains are the “Gold†standard of toy model trains. Prices for these trains range upward to $2000 or more and raises the question of are these trains worth collecting. You are about to find out!
It is hard to say what is more important to a collector, appearance or resale value. Brass Model Trains have both. The quality of material, intricate detailing and overall appearance of these models gives the owner pride in the quality of their collection. Some trains in their natural color almost look as if they were made out of gold and that in turn keeps their resale value extremely high. Due to the craftsmanship, look and cost of these toy model trains they are unique within a unique market. The model train collection market is a small niche but to be a niche within a niche makes the Brass Model Trains extremely rare and unique. Collectors like that aspect. The downside of collecting these unique trains is the cost. They can run more than twice the price of a standard composition train. If a collector wants a vintage brass model train he will pay even more than that since they are extremely rare.
Before you begin delving into these beautiful specimens consider the most important element of collecting brass model trains. Think about brass and how time and weather affects it. Now consider the value of your collection and the time and effort that it will require to properly clean, polish and protect your investment. If for some reason you are not able to give your collection enough care it will begin to turn black and on the other extreme, too much polishing will damage the collection. Caring for these pieces of art is a full time endeavor and requires a lot of work.
For many toy model trains enthusiast realism is the key to their entire collection. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a working locomotive that was made out of brass. So as interesting, valuable and decorative as these pieces are they are not typical of a working train and therefore not realistic. What you may want to consider is adding a piece or two of brass model trains to your collection as basically pieces of art to be showcased in you office or home while using a more traditional approach to your toy model train collection. Of course this really depend on what your purpose in collecting the trains is all about. Many collectors like to purchase sets and pieces that never leave the box and are displayed and traded like commodities while other are more like me in that they prefer to build lavish model train scenery layouts that consist of cities, switching yards, trains stations, mountain, etc. Brass Model Trains are very unique and it really depends on the collector’s personality and intentions of whether these models will be a good fit. To each his own, as they say.
By the way, I own one and it is proudly displayed in my office!

Where would I go to purchase extremely rare books (manuscripts that are several centuries old)?
Can anybody provide me with links to auction sites or dealers that handle extremely rare books from the Middle Ages? How could I go about tracking an original copy of a book published in the 1500s?
Bauman Rare Books. They have a website. They have the greatest ads in the Sunday Times Book section. I love to read how much rare books cost and fantasize about buying a signed first editon Old Man and the Sea and stuff like that. Got 20K to loan me? They have one for sale now. Pax-C
Proud legacy: Fairfax's Rodney remembers how father helped break baseball's color barrier
SGT. LESTER RODNEY received the news by cablegram, something extremely rare for anyone in 1945, let alone an Army Medic stationed at the fifty-second field hospital on a remote island in the South Pacific.
Thanks for visiting!
