NSF Certified 3.2 Gallon Water Storage Tank, provided by 123filter.com
from Ebay's top-rated seller: 123filter*com
Description
Water goes through a reverse osmosis membrane very slowly and people don't have the patience to wait a long time to get a cup of water. For this reason the residential RO units need a water storage tank to store the purified water. The RO tanks can delivery stable and constant water flow when the faucet is opened. The concern that pollutants might come from air or animals with the use an opened tank favors the use of a closed expansion tank. Lead leaching to drinking water the cause of health risks, brass and copper are banned for use in purified/drinking water. This tank uses stainless steel connections to avoid the lead leaching concerns.
This tank is NSF approved under standard 58, and CE approved under the PED (pressure equipment directive).

Pressurized hot water storage tanks, also known as unvented cylinders, have seen a remarkable increase in demand since their introduction to the country in the 1980s. They have proven to be highly popular both with the wider population and the plumbing and heating industry in equal measures. Latest results show 2007 was the first year where unvented systems have accounted for 50% of the hot water systems installations in the UK.
Unvented systems provide good pressure of hot water at home. They differ substantially from traditional systems in that they do not rely on a header tank. Traditional systems build the hot water pressure by having a feeder tank in the loft which builds the water head and creates the pressure for the system. However, there is typically not enough head room for the water to build up sufficient pressure resulting in, for example, low pressure in the shower (especially if it is on the top floor).
Unvented systems are sealed and thus have an internal pressure which is likely to increase as the water within the tank heats up. In traditional systems, expansion of water as it heats up is handled by the feeder tank, which easily accepts any such expansion. For unvented systems, the solutions come in the form of specially designed checks and safety equipment to ensure safe and reliable operations even as water heats up and expands.
It is important to point out that the system is sealed and hence pressurized. As such it requires special training for correct design and installation. Since water expands upon heating it creates a few additional issues to account for. Unlike traditional systems where the header tank can take any expansion of the hot water, in sealed systems the technology has been designed to address this using a few checks and safety equipment along the hot water loop.
An additional safety mechanism is the pressure and temperature relief valve. The PT valve is a mechanical instrument that is designed to open whenever the temperature or the pressure exceeds a preset level, thus creating a potential hazard. When the temperature or pressure becomes too high, the PT valve opens up, discharging excess water into the drain (normally through a tundish), and in doing so reduces the temperature and pressure.
Another safety measure is the temperature and pressure relief valve. The PT valve is a simple yet smart mechanical valve which senses whether the temperature or the pressure within the cylinder is too high (or is breaching a preset level). At that point the valve opens up to let the extra steam out into the drain, thus immediately reducing the temperature, the pressure and the volume of water in the system.
The safety checks and valves ensure a safe and reliable hot water system. The Cold water enters the system at mains pressure, keeping the system (which is sealed) at a constant pressure throughout. The water heats up within the cylinder and is then delivered to the user (still at mains pressure). As the hot water is drawn to the user (normally from the top of the cylinder), fresh cold water enters the cylinder (normally from the bottom) to replenish the levels and sustain the pressure.
There are two main types of unvented cylinders - direct and indirect:
* Direct cylinders - direct systems heat the water through a direct contact between the heating unit and the water that is ultimately drawn by the user. The heating is done by an electrical element with a typical capacity of 2.5 to 3.6kW which is normally enough for a domestic installation.
* In-direct cylinders - using a heat exchanger, the water in the cylinder acquires the heat from the heating medium. Typically a boiler is used to heat up water which is then pumped through the heat exchanger where it loses its heat to the water inside the cylinder. This system is widely used in conjunction with solar thermal systems.
Since their introduction, unvented cylinders have grown in their market share and their popularity. With competition in the market improving availability and reducing prices, it is fair to assume that unvented tanks have a bright future.

Stansted Airport; Its Development And Expansion
Stansted airport from humble beginnings has become the UK's fourth largest airport, a position that is likely to change should the expansion plans for the site go ahead. The number of car hire desks, shops and restaurants is already large although expansion will undoubtedly increase it. Sitting in the beautiful region of Uttlesford it is a site that makes the most of low cost European airlines to fly to over one hundred and seventy destinations. While Heathrow handles almost seventy thousand passengers annually, Stansted is somewhat smaller handling around twenty million. Do not let this detract from the fact that this is still major airport however. How has this site developed over the years, how has it found itself to be the fourth largest airport in the UK?
Stansted began its existence as a military site during the Second World War being used by the RAF but predominantly being used by the American air force. The airport is named after the close by town of Stansted Mountfitchet, a sleepy north Essex town that was more known for its rich history before the airport was built. Bombers were the first planes to use the Stansted site in 1942. American bombers flew a large number of sorties from the site and the buildings were constructed by the USAAF military engineers.
Stansted was the home of the 344th Bombardment Group who flew the impressive B-26 bombers to sites in France, the Netherlands and Belgium. The 344th played a particularly important role in the Normandy landings, bombing strategic positions such as bridges and fuel depots. The result of these raids was that the German force in Normandy had their routes of escape restricted, especially in the area known as the Falaise Gap. Even though the site has been developed beyond recognition with shops, cafes and car hire provisions, some of the original military buildings remain at the outer limits of the airfield, today they are used by private companies.
Today Stansted hosts services that fly to many destinations in Europe. It has even managed to corner markets such as prestige flying. For instance, the highly reputable department store Harrods has a base on the airport that caters for the richest passengers who wish to charter private jets. Their fully equipped base allows passengers who have the money to fly in directly by helicopter from London or to arrive by chauffeur driven car. This kind of service differs from the regular air travel facilities at the airport by providing a premium service that prides itself on being the best of the best. This however is only a small part of the complete service offered by Stansted.
For those arriving at the airport the choice of a hire car can open up the beautiful countryside that surrounds the site. A plethora of quaint towns and villages that scream Englishness make this a welcome distraction before embarking on an onward journey. Unsurprisingly the residents of this area are not keen on the current expansion plans of the airport. The loss of listed buildings and some of the most stunning countryside in the country is one of the major arguments put forward by campaigners although the damage to the way of life is also a powerful point.
The government has earmarked Stansted for expansion over sites such as Gatwick proposing a second runway to improve the capacity of the airport. Whether the plans go ahead is still a matter of debate, local pressure groups are striving to prevent the expansion but if the proposals are agreed by the national government it is likely the development will be completed regardless of objections.
Despite the furore that surrounds the expansion of the site, Stansted's rise to be one of the country's major airports is still impressive. As one of the four airports servicing the capital executives will be hoping to secure the planning permission and to continue this development in the coming years.
About the Author
Air travel expert Thomas Pretty looks into how car hire Stansted airport services have been instrumental in the site's development.
In my new property the central heating system's pipe to the expansion tank is constantly flowing. ?
As soom as the system come on. There has been a new pump fitted recently, is it too big/powerful for the heating system?
One good possibility is that the expansion tank has lost its air charge. The tanks have an air bladder in them to allow for room in the system as the water expands as the furnace heats the water.
If the tank has no air charge then the tank is always full and as the system cools the system fills, and then as heat causes expansion the excess water has no where to go except where you see it flowing out.
Every tank I have seen has a fill valve on top for air. The fill valve looks like an inner tube valve stem. The tank can be aired up just like a bicycle tire or car tire with a hand pump.
The main trick is that you need to turn off the water supply and bleed the pressure of the water in the system. Then you can check the air pressure in the tank and fill to the required pressure which is usually marked on the tank by the air fill valve. I don't remember the pressure but if your tank isn't marked check one out at a hardware store and see what they use. When you are filling the tank check the pressure with a tire gauge.
There is a possibility that the rubber bladder in the tank has a leak and won't hold air. In this case you will need to replace the tank.
All in all it is a pretty easy fix.
