In short, a T one router is simply a router which attaches to a T1 line. This line is then connected to a networking set of computers with Internet capabilities, either private and/or local computers can be networked.
A special interfacing is found within the T1 router, due to it not being an IP or Ethernet service. The initial creation of this type of line was for use on digitized phone lines. It was meant to carry multiple digital telephone lines at once.

On most area networks today, packet switching is used. The T1 router eliminates conversions that might be needed with other routers; there isn't any need for framing, timing, and coding.
Hooking up this line router is easy; the T1 line is inserted into the port on the router, then this network is attached to another one. The connections all meet specifications issued by LAN and the T1 line. These connections allow network traffic to be provided to business locations and the internet.
As for compatibility with T1 lines, some routers work with them and some don't. Many IP based routers use two separate interfacing devices; CSUs and DSUs. These connect individually to the router. The CSU, or Channel Service Unit, is connected to the T1 line via the telco demarcation point. This device is in charge of taking care of the electrical limitations between the bipolar T1 signal and the digital signals given off by networking devices.
Another function of the CSU is that it can be checked via remote. The DSU, or Data Service Unit, is like a modem. This mechanical device changes the network signals, which are switching the TDM format being used on the T1 line. A combination device, called a CSU/DSU, is found on the T1 router.
This device combo is what distinguishes the T1 router from others. It can be inserted directly into the router when being constructed or it is available as a plug-in module. The combination of both devices is what allows the handling of the wide area network connection by a single piece of equipment. Whomever the T1 carrier provider is, this company can also issue a T1 line router with the service. Not having to purchase a T1 router will save money, plus, if there is a cost issued by the carrier it is minimal. Many companies will provide the service with T1 leasing fees added into the monthly cost. By not having to purchase many separate devices for network connections, this will also save money on your T1 Line Service.
