Desktops on the Cheap! Get More for Less
In an increasingly Internet-driven world, computers have become an indispensable tool both in the workplace and in the home. There is the misconception, however, that for you to be able to accomplish tasks efficiently, nothing would be more suitable for the job than a high-end computer. But unless your requirements are highly specialized, a desktop that can do basic computing tasks will do.
What to Look For
There are a lot of inexpensive desktop computers available in the market today and the first thing you need to look at is how much memory you will need. A memory is vital to computing tasks such as playing multimedia, Web surfing, accessing multiple computer programs simultaneously and so on. Aim to get no less than 2 gigabytes of memory capacity.
A hard drive is also an important component of your desktop. A sizeable hard drive will enable you to store as much content as you like such as images, music, files and other similar items. Most affordable desktops today contain at least 250 gigabytes and this hard drive capacity should suffice.
Try to save as much as you can on certain elements of the desktop but make sure you get decent 3D and graphics capability especially if you want a satisfactory Internet browsing experience. If you are a casual gamer, a graphics-sufficient desktop will also afford you many enjoyable gaming hours.
Recommendations
It’s amazing how many desktops you will find that are both affordable and stylish. The Dell Studio Hybrid is one such PC and it may appeal to you since it sports a fashionable, compact design available too, in a variety of vibrant colors. It has an Intel Core 2 processor that is not only powerful but also energy-saving. Because of its size, it doesn’t take up too much space and is a refreshing alternative to the usual box-type PCs.

When searching for a cheap desktop computer, make sure that you shop around and compare prices and features before you decide on one unit. Don’t be tempted to buy the first bargain that you see. The thing about some inexpensive PCs is that sometimes the low price means a compromise on some important features.
Also, it is important to note that some cheap PCs may come with bundled software that are mostly useless and are designed mostly to lure you into additional purchases. What type of Hard drive will be compatible with Dell Optiplex GX280?
I am planning to buy a secondary Internal hard drive for my Dell Optiplex GX280 desktop. But not sure on which type I should buy? I see lots of type of HD... EIDE, SATA --- have no clue what will be compatible with my Dell. Can you pl. help? My goal is to spend for decent 150-200 GB HD for low price with no accessory purchase.
I strongly suggest that you buy an external drive that connects through a USB port. That would allow you porability to your next computer or to transfer files to another computer. They are very easy to use compared to an internal drive. And they are cheap and fast. I have several that I store movies on and they are very flexible.
