Australian immigration?
Hi,
I have applied 176(VIC state) visa under computing professional 2231-79 (nec) on May, 2009. I worked in usa under H1B working visa as software consultant from January, 2008 to May, 2009. Totally I have 5 years experience in India and usa. After I applied for Australia I lost my job in usa, since its hard to find job in usa now, I came to indiafor vacation on 2 nd of June, 2009. Will this situation effect to my DIAC application under 176? Still no CO assigned. What I have to do when CO assigned?

If you:
• have a positive skills assessment from the Australian Computer Society as a 2231-79 in a specialty required by Victoria
• you have approved state sponsorship from Victoria
• have at least IELTS 6s across all 4 bands taken within 2 years
• have lodged documentation with DIAC to prove all of the above in addition to a complete visa application with all other required documentation...
you should have been allocated a CO within about 10 working days of lodging your application. If you have done all of the above, going to India on vacation or losing your job in the USA will not have affected your application. If you don't have a CO yet, something has evidently gone wrong - perhaps Victoria hasn't sent approval of your nomination to DIAC.
The latest ASPC bulletin states "1. State or Territory Nominated Applications - once the department has received and approved a nomination from a State or Territory authority, processing of the application will usually commence within 10 working days of that approval."
When your CO is assigned, s/he will tell you what you must do next. That will probably be to have your medicals and police checks done and sent to him/her. You visa should be granted within a few weeks of that next step unless there are any problems.
