If you've ever opened the oven door to check on a roast only to watch the heat escape while an "instant read" thermometer measures temperature, you'll appreciate this impressively-accurate, remote cable thermometer. Simply insert its high-heat stainless steel probe into meat, shut the oven door, and monitor internal food temperature on a large, easy-to-read digital display. You can even program an alarm to sound when food has reached a desired temperature. Predetermined settings are also available. This capability is especially useful for smoking, barbecuing, or any "low and slow" technique--eliminating the need to check on food and allow precious smoke to escape. Unlike other remote probe thermometers, heat resistance makes this versatile tool ideal for candy making or deep fat frying. A special clip secures the probe to your saucepan. Plus, since the Proaccurate withstands temperatures up to 482 degrees Fahrenheit, you won't melt through several probes in the course of a year's cooking. A magnetic back and folding stand let you store the thermometer on a counter or stove. A handy 24-hour count-up, count-down timer also functions solo to aid any cooking task. This commercial-quality thermometer is calibrated to the National Sanitation Foundation standards--the highest standards achievable. It runs on a single AAA battery, included with purchase. --Mary Park
Take the guesswork out of your cooking and baking and enjoy meals cooked to perfection. This digital thermometer has a temperature range from 32 to 482 degrees F, will display in both F and C, and includes easy-to-use programmable settings, a 24-hour count up and down timer, alarm and large display. Useful for Candy & Oil as well. It's calibrated to the National Sanitation Foundation standards, the highest standard achievable, and accepted for commercial use, so it's extremely accurate. AAA batteries are included. *Temperature not to exceed 482 F. Doing so will deteriorate the wire. Not for microwave use..

Classic Scenes from Timeless Films - Learn How To Understand the Components of Film. The program consists of a general introduction to film language and five "lessons" covering the major elements of cinematic language: LIGHTING, CAMERA, MISE EN SCENE, SOUND and EDITING. For each of these lessons there is a short overview to introduce the lesson and its film clip, which consists of an "original clip" of a scene from a classic film. This is followed by an "instructional clip" that shows the same scene again but with synchronized voice-over commentary about the use of film language it illustrates. The movie scenes come from recognized film classics such as: Carol Reed's "The Third Man" (Lighting), Buster Keaton's "The General" (Camera), Fritz Lang's "M" (Mise en scene), Sergei Eisenstein's "Alexander Nevsky" (Sound), and Alfred Hitchcock's "Sabotage" (Editing). This program is interactive allowing students to go directly from the introduction, to any of the five lessons, to supplementary information about the classic films or to the glossary of film terms used in the program.

This set, comprising 4 videos, a manual and a software package, is an introduction to the use of principal components analysis (PCA) and related methods in chemometrics. Emphasis has been placed on the use of PCA to display graphically the structure of data sets or to extract graphically information from such a set (display methods). However, links are provided to several other important methods, such as evolving factor analysis, principal component regression and partial least squares. In order to induce students to learn PCA, and convince them of the usefulness of the methods, several real-life examples have been included. These examples have been chosen to illustrate the generality of the data analysis approach. The data pertain to food, industrial and environmental analysis, animal experimentation, medicinal chemistry, virology and epidemiology. In the software section an additional example concerned with food analysis has been added. Section 3 of the manual contains a complete list of figures. This allows the user to look at some of the figures in a more leisurely fashion or to re-read text which has been heard when viewing the videos. Some of the visuals and some of the texts (occasionally shortened) have been included in this section. Two types of software augment this series. The first is a tutorial version of a commercial software package called SPECTRAMAP, which has been modified for didactical use. SPECTRAMAP is a performant software for methods derived from PCA that gives excellent display quality. The other type of software is a listing of a MATLAB program. In order to understand completely a mathematical algorithm or method, the authors recommend the user to program it himself, using MATLAB. In this way the user can also obtain all the intermediate results, thereby understanding what happens with a data set when analyzed by PCA. This section also contains an additional data set with which the user can experiment with the software. Some hints are given in to teachers and self-learners on how to use the material to optimize results.

28 Days (Special Edition)
List Price: $9.99
Sale Price: $2.96

To appreciate 28 Days, it's best to be thankful that director Betty Thomas hasn't forced Sandra Bullock into a remake of Clean and Sober. Instead Thomas has balanced her comedic sensibility (evident in Dr. Dolittle and Private Parts) with the seriousness of alcoholism and substance abuse, and she succeeds without compromising the gravity of the subject matter. Some critics have scoffed at the movie's breezy, formulaic portrait of 27-year-old boozer and pill-popper Gwen Cummings (Bullock), but this smooth-running star vehicle does for Bullock what Erin Brockovich did for Julia Roberts, focusing her appeal in a substantial role without taxing the limits of her talent. It's no wonder that Susannah Grant (who wrote both films) was one of the hottest new screenwriters of 1999. She writes "Hollywood Lite" without insulting anyone's intelligence. As played by Bullock, Gwen is an alcoholic in denial whose latest bender with boozer boyfriend Jasper (Dominic West) ruins the wedding of her sister (Elizabeth Perkins) and lands her in a month-long rehab program with the requisite gang of struggling drunks and junkies. Newcomer Alan Tudyk steals his scenes as a gay German rehabber who might've dropped in from a Berlin performance-art exhibit, and Steve Buscemi aptly conveys the weary commitment of a counselor who's seen it all. Thomas has surrounded Bullock with a sharp ensemble, and the addition of singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III (as a kind of Greek chorus crooner) is sublimely inspired. Certainly no surprises here--the warring sisters will reconcile, and at least one rehabber will fail to recover--but there's ample pleasure to be found in Bullock's finely tuned performance, and in Thomas's inclusion of flashbacks and tangents that add depth and laughter in just the right dosage. --Jeff Shannon
Sandra Bullock is a newspaper reporter who, while intoxicated, crashes a limousine on the day of sister Elizabeth Perkins' wedding. Bullock enters a rehab center where she attempts to fit in with the diverse group of patients--which is difficult when her boyfriend brings her booze and drugs during visits. With Diane Ladd, Viggo Mortensen and Steve Buscemi. 104 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English; audio commentaries; "making of" documentary; isolated music score; production notes; theatrical trailers; interactive menus; scene access.

Hdmi to Component Cable
Every day many people are searching through their high-definition equipment for an interconnection solution by trying to connect HDMI to Component outputs. Unfortunately, this is not a matter of rearranging wires and then having the correct type of connector needed. There is a basic problem with incompatibility in analog versus digital. This problem is much like the transition to digital broadcast TV, which is coming soon, versus rabbit ears which receive analog signals. They are not compatible and leave individuals confused like the poor person in the TV commercial.
Component video is based on an analog format. With analog signals, the voltage signals with the system's wire are in a particular wave format, and how the wave changes in height is what is important. In theory, it has an infinite number of values between zero and the maximum allowed, like the variable windshield wipers I used to have on an old Thunderbird.
The formats based on digital signaling are HDMI or DVI. Digital data, as you might have heard, just has ones and zeros with a sequence of pulses all at the same level, and they are either totally present or totally missing. The data is then reassembled on the other side using processing equipment. In a 4-bit binary code, you can have one of sixteen different values as four 1s and 0s assembled with a group could be sixteen different combinations. If the pulses received are 1s and 0s, the equipment that detects signals for analog equipment and looks for analog sine waves cannot function properly because they are speaking two different languages.
Often solutions to this problem are quite simple, however. If an output is available, you should use an HDMI or DVI on both boxes. The difference between HDMI and DVI is HDMI carries the audio as well as the video signals. A DVI cable will resolve the issue just as well, with the added expense of an audio cable. In the event that you fall back on component outputs because your HDMI ports are already occupied, you might want to consider using inexpensive HDMI switch boxes that take input from multiple HDMI cables.
If you want to convert Component to HDMI because you heard HDMI is better than Component cables, you need to think twice. There is data backing the assertion that, although HDMI cables in theory offer a superior picture, in reality, given the conversions between resolutions and display formats, component connections often end up delivering a better signal to the television. This is particularly true when dealing with cables longer than 25 feet. So, if you have the option, try both kinds of cables to find out which one delivers the best picture available.
If you're completely stuck for some reason and must change from Component to HDMI cable, they do make converter boxes, but those boxes usually sell for $200+. However, if you go the other way, you can run into High Definition Content Protection restrictions and not see HDCP protected sources.
With any luck, your HDMI to Component solution will be an easy fix using one of the solutions discussed above. If not, at least you have a good reason to purchase better gear!

My PS3 is set to component video, how do I switch it to HDMI?
Yeah I know that's easy, but I don't have any component video cables. So I can turn the ps3 but my tv isn't showing anything because the ps3 is still set to component video. I last played at my friends house and he uses component video. Is there any way to start the ps3 so that it uses hdmi instead of component video?
Hold the button of your PS3 until the 2th bip when you start up your Ps3.
The answer to your question is also found in the PS3's manual. I had the same issue before too! And it's the most asked question on yahoo answers' playstation section! Sony should clear this out for people.
