Gus Hansen: The Best Casino Gambler Alive

Gus Hansen or Gustav Hansen in his birth name is very popular in the casino scene. He made his name in two of the most popular games in the gambling industry. He is a sought after player during world series and other big tournaments. He was even quoted on being a "maniac" on the table.

Hansen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark but now lives in Monaco. He is a a thirty five year-old guy who made gambling his career. He is an achiever not only in casinos but also in tennis. He played for several indoor and outdoor sports proving himself as a sports enthusiast.

He started his gambling career by playing Backgammon when he transferred to New York. Hansen was a world class player on this game and was highly ranked. However, he decided to shift to another game because the money on Backgammon is not enough from him. It was way too low for his league.

In 1997, he switched to playing Poker professionally. It all started in Ocean View Card Room in Santa Cruz, California. He was then a student at UC Sta. Cruz and a notorious card player at the same time. Because of his aggressive plays, his strategy was hard to track. He was known for his big raises no matter if he was holding a good hand or just bluffing. It becomes pressure to raise the bet higher or just call.

On the first season of World Poker Tour (WPT), he was able to last until the final tables. It took place in Bellagio Casino and the Commerce Casino. In fact, he is the only player who held the title for three WPT open tournaments. In addition, he played and won on the WPT Bad Boys of Poker invitational event. All these winnings made him well-known and has the honor to introduce the World Poker Tour Walk of Fame. Unfortunately, he only won second to David Chiu on the previous WPT.

In the European Poker Masters, he was able to take home $102,000. He deserved it after defeating Marc Goodwin heads-up.

Poker Superstars made him more than a million dollar richer. For the inaugural, he won $400,000 and another $1,000,000 in a one-table event. His opponents were famous players as well.

Aside from gambling in casinos, he is also into sports betting. Considering how unlucky he is in this game, he just can't stop betting. He admitted that he has lost more a million on this.
