Jakks Atari Classics 10 In 1 TV Games List Price: $19.99 Sale Price: $37.47 |
|
With the Atari 10-in-1 TV Games System you have a completely self-contained gaming system. Take 10 classic video games with you wherever you go -- all you have to do is hook it up to your TV. The system is even designed to look like a real Atari 2600 joystick! Today's video games with all their bells and whistles had to begin somewhere, and that somewhere was your living room, in, say, 1982. Remember Asteroids, Missile Command, and Breakout? How about Centipede, Adventure and Gravitar? This TV Games Video System--just a "smart" joystick and nothing else--delivers 10 classic games in all. The joystick has the typical up-down-left-right movements, and single functions to select, start, and reset games. Front-and-center is a big, red fire button ("fire" being the only way to propel or kill things back then). The unit hooks up to your TV via those yellow and white AV output jacks (which should already be on your TV or VCR), and requires 4 "AA" batteries. --Diane Beall |

It has been three decades since the first home video game systems started to appear on store shelves and in living rooms. In the passing years those games have become increasingly more sophisticated. Long gone are the rough hewn square graphics and the clumsy sound modulation that many of us remember fondly. In their place are sound and graphics that can imitate life, and games that move quickly and perform much like reality. Up until now, the realistic game performances were reserved for the action on the screen, but with the introduction of the Nintendo Wii, the action has leapt into our living rooms as we become part of the Nintendo Wii game experience.
The Nintendo Wii lets us become part of the game in a way never before seen. Instead of the joystick and buttons that have been a staple of video game play since the days of Atari, the Nintendo Wii uses infrared technology to communicate with a wireless remote control, and it is the remote control of the Nintendo Wii that separates it from the pack.
The Nintendo Wii remote - known officially as Wiimote - is a wireless, handheld, remote control that features conventional buttons and one unconventional and revolutionary feature; it senses movement. The Wiimote has the capability of sensing its position in three dimensional space. This allows the player to interact with the Nintendo Wii in a way that no other game system allows. Move your arm up and the character in the game moves up. Rotate your hand and the same happens in the game. The Nintendo Wii makes you part of the action. Now you can move, jump, swing, and act along with the game characters as if you were one of them.
The Nintendo Wii also has the capability of traditional game play as well. Different controllers can be plugged into the Wiimote, and that allows you to sit down and play games the way you are probably used to playing them, with buttons and joystick. The Wiimote can also be adapted for use with the Wii Zapper - a soon to be released gun-like shell that houses the Wiimote and allows it to be used like a handgun. Or how about the Wii Steering Wheel; a self explanatory device that is perfect with driving games like Monster 4x4 World Circuit.
What we are seeing with the Nintendo Wii is just the tip of the iceberg. In the short time since its release it has taken the gaming world by storm, and it is likely that the innovation will continue to come at a fast and furious pace. The Nintendo Wii platform is truly a technological innovation that will change the way we play games forever.

The Evolution Of Video Games Systems
Video game systems have changed a lot since they were first introduced to the public. Early systems were quite simple with games meant to amuse and occupy a busy child's mind. Today's video game systems are designed for everyone of every age and do more than entertain. They teach, engage and keep a person busy for hours. The changes in game systems have taken them from a simple toy to a tool that can be found in almost every American home.
The Introduction of Video Games
One of the first game systems to come on the market was the Atari. This system was simple. It featured a joystick type controller and the games had minimal graphics and sound. There were also a fairly limited number of games for the system. It was designed mainly for children and teens and adults did not usually play with the Atari.
Later Nintendo and PlayStation got into the video game market, introducing their first platforms. Nintendo quickly became a household name with its game system that improved upon the Atari with better graphics, more chooses in games and addition gaming gear to make the games more exciting and appealing to teens and adults. Playstation did the same. This was the first step towards the video game systems we have today.
Evolution Over the Years
Video games systems have evolved tremendously since that first Atari system. Today there are extreme games on the market. Game systems have cordless controllers, gun style controllers, sports type controllers and other special controllers that allow people to play all types of video games. Video games today include racing, sports, fitness, role playing and typical arcade style games.
Besides the game systems being more advanced and using advanced technology, the games have changed. They now feature graphics that almost look real. They have amazing sound and they provide a real life type experience. It is almost as if you are directing real people when you play one of today's modern video games. This is just one of the major changes that has really taken video games to a new level. Another major change was the introduction of the Wii by Nintendo.
With the introduction of the Nintendo Wii, video gaming changed forever. This game system is an extremely advanced video game that engages the player. No longer does playing a video game mean sitting on your bum in front of the television. With the Wii system you are up and moving. Many adults use the Wii Fit system to exercise.
Video games systems have really taken off and you can find some type of video game system in almost every home in America. There are tournaments where people play video gamers for money. Adults, teens and children all play video games today. Systems are used for many reasons, from playing for entertainment to playing for fitness to playing for money. When that first video game system was invented, nobody could predict just how much of an impact these systems would have on society.
