Barney, BJ, and Baby Bop invite young viewers to accompany them as they visit the Fort Worth Zoo in this 50-minute, never-televised Barney show. Unlike the typical televised episode, this installment is shot completely on location. Absent is the core group of children who interact with Barney--instead, Barney focuses on BJ, Baby Bop, and his young viewers. BJ attempts to chronicle their journey through the zoo with his camera, Baby Bop embarks on a quest to introduce her stuffed elephant Nellie to a real elephant, and Scooter McNutty tries desperately to locate the squirrel exhibit. Barney provides key information about animals like Mandle monkeys, zebras, and flamingos while posing many questions and challenges that invite viewer interaction. Also included is footage of real children discussing and imitating a variety of animals. Eleven fun songs accompany Barney's expedition including "What Will We See at the Zoo," "Rock Like a Monkey," and "Everybody Needs a Nap." The Fort Worth Zoo proves to be a wonderful setting for this innovative Barney episode and the animal photography is close-up and excellent. Bridge to Terabithia [Blu-ray] List Price: $15.99 Sale Price: $5.98 |
|
BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA - Blu-Ray Movie Based on Katherine Paterson's young-adult novel and filmed in picturesque New Zealand, Bridge to Terabithia has lessons to impart about empathy and self-expression, but the tone is never heavy-handed. Jesse (sleepy-eyed Josh Hutcherson, Zathura), a fifth-grade loner, lives in the country with his parents and four sisters, including pesky May Belle (Bailee Madison), who adores him. His strict father (Robert Patrick, The Terminator 2) works in a hardware store. Money is tight and classmates make fun of his hand-me-downs, so Jesse finds refuge in running and drawing. Everything changes when two writers and their daughter Leslie (wide-eyed AnnaSophia Robb, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) move in next door. Leslie is faster than all the boys, which initially puts Jesse off, but the two soon bond over their love of make-believe. In the forest, they find a creek that can only be crossed by rope. Leslie names the land on the other side Terabithia, where they imagine themselves rulers of the kingdom. Jesse and Leslie also connect with their unconventional music teacher, Ms. Edmonds (Zooey Deschanel, Elf), who encourages their creativity. Despite the tension at home, Jesse's personal life is finally coming together when the unthinkable happens. Will he revert to his anti-social ways or will he grow from the experience? Though aimed at all ages, pre-school students may find Terebithia's creatures frightening. For grade-school kids and up, however, there's much to savor in this smartly written, sensitively acted film. --Kathleen C. Fennessy |

Point Man learned the target was his brother, Paxton Fettel, working alongside their tortured and psychically powerful mother, Alma Wade. Despite this revelation, Point Man followed orders to destroy them and subsequently ravaged the surrounding city and most of his F.E.A.R. With his chain of command broken and Point Man calling his own shots, where will his allegiance lie. Test your various telekinetic powers and your sense of loyalty with the return of Paxton Fettel. View larger. Gameplay As with the previous two releases in the F.E.A.R. Franchise, F.E.A.R. 3 is a FPS with Horror gameplay. Players experience action both from perspective of Paxton Fettel - resurrected from the headshot he received in the previous game - and his brother Point Man, who was the trigger man. Since Fettel was indeed killed in the earlier encounter, his presence in the game is almost ghostlike, with he relying on a devastating range of telekinetic powers, including the ability to possess the bodies of the living in order to perform certain physical tasks. Point Man on the other hand is quite corporal and is a super soldier with expertise in a wide range of weaponry. He also has loyalties to the AI F.E.A.R. Operatives that populate the game. The problem with this is that the operative's goal is to eliminate the growing power of Alma, the mother of both Point Man and Paxton Fettel. Because of this layers will face choices that will pit duty against family loyalties. Both characters have access to mech units encountered throughout the game. F.E.A.R. 3 also features an impressive range of multiplayer options. The first of these is a co-op mode that allows one player to take on the powers of Fettel, while the other assumes those of Point Man as they work together during an uneasy truce. An additional multiplayer mode is available that tests your ability to work together under stress and constant fire to get your squad from point A to point B as a unit. Key Game Features Divergent Co-op - Deep, social gameplay that gives players distinctly different abilities Experience the Almaverse - New sinister enemy creatures birthed in Alma's warped mind spill into reality Generative Scare - Increases the feeling of isolation and unpredictability by offering new experiences each time Masters of Horror - Legendary director John Carpenter and writer Steve Niles provide their expertise on cinematics and story Multiplayer - A twist on classic multiplayer modes set inside the Almaverse provide an experience unique to F.E.A.R. 3. Spectacular, beautiful filming of author Isak Dinesen's accounts of her life in 1910s Africa won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Director. Meryl Streep stars as the Danish woman who reluctantly goes to Africa with husband Klaus Maria Brandauer to run a coffee plantation, but slowly comes to fall in love with the untamed land and with hunter Robert Redford; directed by Sydney Pollack. 161 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital Surround, French Dolby Digital stereo; audio commentary by Pollack; documentary; biographies; theatrical trailer. Sydney Pollack's 1985 multiple-Oscar winner is a sumptuous and emotionally satisfying film about the life of Danish writer Karen Blixen (Meryl Streep), better known as Isak Dinesen, who travels to Kenya to be with her German husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) but falls for an English adventurer (Robert Redford). The film is slow in developing the relationship, but it is rich in beautiful images of Africa and in the romantic tone surrounding Blixen's gradual discovery of her life and voice. One downside: while we may all love Redford, he is as convincingly British as Kevin Costner is in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. --Tom Keogh |

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang [Blu-ray] List Price: $14.98 Sale Price: $6.86 |
|
As a screenwriter, Shane Black made millions of dollars from screenplays for the big-budget action movies Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout, among others. With his directing debut Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, Black mocks and undercuts every cliche he once helped to invent. While fleeing from the cops, small time hood Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey Jr., Wonder Boys) stumbles into an acting audition--and does so well he gets taken to Hollywood, where--pursuing a girl he loved in high school (foxy Michelle Monaghan, North Country)--he gets caught up in twisty murder mystery. His only chance of getting out alive is a private detective named Gay Perry (Val Kilmer, Wonderland, The Doors), who sidelights as a consultant for movies. No plot turn goes untweaked by Black's clever, witty script, and Downey, Kilmer, and Monaghan clearly have a ball playing their screwball variations on action movie stereotypes. There's nothing profound about Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, but it brings back wicked mischief to a genre that all often takes itself too seriously. --Bret Fetzer Lethal Weapon scripter Shane Black's debut, this comedic thriller stars Robert Downey, Jr. as a struggling New York actor/small-time thief who goes to L.A. for a movie role as a private detective. Paired up with a gay P.I. (Val Kilmer) as research for the part, Downey finds himself unexpectedly reunited with his high school crush (Michelle Monaghan) while trying to solve a series of murders. With Corbin Bernsen, Dash Mihok. 103 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital Surround stereo; Subtitles: English (SDH), French, Spanish; audio commentary; theatrical trailer; more. |

Apache, the second novel in the Jake Silver Adventure series by newcomer author Jere D. James, is a gritty, dark, hard-core, action-packed Western novel. Far more traditional than James' first title, Saving Tom Black, Apache delivers punch after punch of shocking, action-filled scenes.
Set in Arizona, ca 1888, James sends his main character, U.S. Deputy Marshal Jake Silver, on a blind search for his missing sister who, in order to escape the stigma of having an illegitimate child, left home to marry a ne'er-do-well, unknown rancher in southern Arizona. Finding Sophy is Jake's excuse for leaving the comforts of girlfriend Betsy DuBonnet (Saving Tom Black) but it's equally apparent that Jake's real motivation to leave on this quest is to have some time on the trail to sort things out regarding his relationship with Betsy and the subsequent expectations for marriage that he unhappily finds himself facing.
In the months since arriving in southern Arizona, however, Sophy Silver has been befriended by Nantan Lupan, the last of the Bodonkohe Apaches. James fully explores the taboos of a love affair between an Indian and white woman, showing society's abhorrence of such a liason. One cannot help but root for the hapless Indian, however, and hope that James will bring this enticing, excellently well-drawn character back in a future novel.
New to the series also is Captain Peter Burt, a man who is quite taken with the winsome Sophy Silver and aids the marshal in his search. Unlike the tender, often humorous Saving Tom Black, such is the seriousness of this work, that the only humor in the book comes from Burt. He is yet another character that this reviewer would like to see in a future title.
James does an excellent job in this book of adding a dark dimension to the heretofore perfect Deputy Marshal Jake Silver, which makes this character even more likeable and real. If Jake comes across as too good to be true in Saving Tom Black, that image is happily tarnished in this read.
This book takes many unexpected twists and turns as Jake Silver pursues his sister and her lover, and the outcome of this pursuit is remarkably fresh and unexpected. However, the ultimate end of the book will be surprising, even shocking.
James does an excellent job of paving the way for future books in the series, skillfully planting innuendos along the way. If this writer can continue in this vein, the Jake Silver Adventure series may prove to be as long-lasting and popular as some of the other great. Western series.
This book is published by Moonlight Mesa Associates, Inc. and is available at http://www.moonlightmesaassociates.com, Amazon, and from your local book dealer. ISBN 9780977459377.

Writer's Block - 5 Breakthrough Ideas
Congratulations! You have begun your viral marketing campaign by writing and submitting articles that have been spread throughout the world through ezines, blogs, and other online publications as others picked up your articles and posted them on their own pages. Two or three times a week you sat down to write and hardly knew how much time had passed from the moment you began writing until you finished. The time went quickly and you remembered how much you enjoyed writing. The ideas flowed and there seemed to be no end to the number of thoughts you could put in print.
You watched your stats for each article, did a Google search for your own name and articles, and were excited by the results you found. Even your "expert" status gave you a high and made you feel good about this new venture you were on. And each day the adventure continued.
Then suddenly one day you sat down to write and nothing came to your mind or you started writing but your thoughts were disjointed and jumbled. The ticking of the clock was there to remind you that hours had passed and the piece of paper or the computer screen before you was half empty. In an effort to complete the article, panic set in and then there were no words, no ideas, no third point to support the main theme (and everyone knows you have to have at least three points to support your theme, don't they?).
If writer's block has stopped your article writing campaign in its tracks, choose one or more of these five ideas to break through the block and get your viral marketing efforts back on track.
Move away from the computer
If you have been sitting at your computer, staring at a blank screen, pulling your hair out to get a new idea to write about, get up and move a little. The mere movement away from your computer to get some blood flowing will help to jumpstart your creative juices. If you haven't come up with an idea to write about just by staring at the screen, continued staring will not change anything for you, except to give you a headache.
Read today's headlines or your favorite blog
By reading today's headlines or your favorite blog, your mind will reconnect with words and ideas again. It might take just one sentence or one article for your mind to come up with a new idea, but if you don't come up with a new idea after the first headline or the first blog, try, try again. If still nothing comes to your mind, at least you have kept up with the news and seeds have been planted in your brain that might surface hours or days later.
Read through your previous articles
Read through some of your own articles to find an article that was written from a broad angle and pick it apart to come up with more articles on narrower topics.
In a typical article, as you were taught in school, you probably made three points that supported your main point. You can write an article on one of these three points and support it with three more points that can be used in later articles, then these three points can be used in three more articles and so on. See where I'm going? Until you get down to the article that tells about the "molecular structure" of whatever your topic is, you can write articles for days based on solely on one of your previous articles.
Make a list of words
Start with just a list of words associated with your business or area of interest that could become the topic of your article. If your business is about decorating on a budget, list the rooms in your house or the techniques, such as paint, wallpaper, stenciling, etc., that can be used to spruce up your walls. Start with just words then move up to phrases as those come to mind.
From this list you can choose one of the words or topics and write an article about that, or you can choose one area, such as walls, and write a series of articles on the different ways to change the look of a room just by changing the walls.
Write a post for your blog
When you have an idea to work with, write a post for your blog. Most blogs are written in a less formal, conversational tone than that used for articles for publication; often you feel as though you are writing to a friend rather than to an audience. Choose a topic or word from the headlines, a previous article, or your list of words and phrases start and writing a short post to your blog.
After writing this less formal, probably smaller, article for your blog, use the main ideas therein to turn it into an article for submission. You can then direct your blog readers to the full article and ask them to rate the article, which will in turn boost your author status, which will likely boost your morale and thus your creativity.
As in Newton's 1st Law of Motion: a body at rest tends to stay at rest and a body in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. If the ideas you need to get your writing campaign back on track have come to a sudden stop, use one of these outside forces to get in motion again: move away from the computer, read today's headlines or your favorite blog, read through your previous articles, make a list of words and phrases, or write a post for your blog. You will find the words flowing from your fingertips in no time.

Are there any good settings for adventure stories?
I have writer's block...I can't think. I need to think of an adventure story, but I don't have any ideas. Can someone tell me a good place for an adventure? And if you want, you can put a short plot, too. don't say anything really detailed. I want to make the story.
Over the rainbow
In the dark, twisted world of the boogeyman
In outerspace
In a city inside a giant bubble under the sea
In a secret, underground civilization
In a forest
In heaven (A guy dies, gets to heaven, can't stand it and plots his escape...if only it were THAT easy.)
In limbo (Lots of fun there.)
In hell (Some more fun.)
In a snowglobe (A world trapped in a snowglobe. Think about it.)
In cyberspace
In a magical kingdom far, far away (Maybe over the rainbow or through a mirror.)
In a candyland-like world inside the stomach of a whale
In someone's mind (They're trapped inside their own heads, put in a coma or stuck in their dream world. *shrugs*)
