Game of Thrones: The Complete First Season
List Price: $59.99
Sale Price: $34.96

Game of Thrones, the first book in author George R.R. Martin's sprawling fantasy saga A Song of Fire and Ice, serves as the basis for this brawny, lusty series about courtly intrigue and civil war in a sprawling fantasy kingdom. TV and fantasy veteran Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings, Sharpe's Rifles) leads the massive cast as the warrior-noble Eddard Stark, who reluctantly assumes the role as the Hand of the King after the mysterious death of his predecessor. The King, Robert Baratheon, has leadership of the lands of Westeros, a mythical country plagued by severe, decade-long shifts in weather. His rule is challenged by the exiled Prince Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd), who trades his own sister (Emilia Clarke) for the allegiance of the Dothraki, a savage nomadic tribe led by Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa of the 2011 Conan the Barbarian). A shocking secret kept hidden by Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey, 300) leads to an upset in the balance of power and, ultimately, a challenge to the House of Stark to bring control to the bloodshed that threatens to overtake Westeros. Fantasy has been a tricky genre for television--the scope required to bring the sweep and imagination to life is usually better suited for the big screen. But Game of Thrones neatly sidesteps the issue by virtue of the quality of the production at every level. Though the series is steeped in fantastic elements, from direwolves to dragons, series creators David Benioff (who wrote Troy and The Kite Runner, among others) and author D.B. Weiss (Lucky Wander Boy) have rooted the drama in the emotional landscape of its characters, which brings the end result closer to Benioff's humorous description of the show as "The Sopranos in Middle-Earth." Intricate plotting and direction with an eye for realism by a host of HBO veterans, including Tim Van Patten, Alan Taylor, and Daniel Minahan, underscores that notion, as does its stellar cast, which includes Mark Addy as Headey's husband, King Robert, Iain Glen as the faithful knight Ser Jorah Mormont, and Aiden Gillen (The Wire) as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish. However, the proceedings are handily won by Peter Dinklage's Emmy-nominated turn as the cunning Tyrion, whose intellect is constantly disregarded due to his size. Of course, viewers can also tune in to simply enjoy the more visceral elements of Game of Thrones, which features quite a bit of medieval-style carnage, as well as an at-times unnecessary level of nudity, which feels like a network decision based on the amount of flesh on display in their other successful shows. Regardless, Game of Thrones is an entirely addictive experience for both fantasy and drama fans alike throughout its debut 10 episodes, all of which are featured on this multi-disc set. --Paul Gaita
All 10 episodes from the debut season--including "Winter Is Coming," "The Wolf and the Lion," "A Golden Crown," "The Pointy End," and "Fire and Blood"--are featured in a five-disc set. 9 1/3 hrs. total. Widescreen; Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English, Chinese, French, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai; audio commentary; featurettes; character profiles; more. **10 episodes on five discs. 9 1/3 hrs.**

Epiphany O'day was kicked out of her college research position for believing in the Secrets of the Dragon Wheel. After getting in touch with her old mentor Professor Lunn, she finds herself thrown into a dangerous adventure where mysterious people are willing to commit murder to achieve their goals. Help Epiphany as she travels deep into the Far East and unravels the mysteries surrounding the fabled Dragon Wheel!
Secrets of the Dragon Wheel is another great hidden object adventure game developed by Silverback Productions, the makers of the highly popular Empress of the Deep game. In Dragon Wheel, you play the part of Epiphany O'day, an archaeology researcher who has just lost her position at her university for stubbornly believing in the mythical Dragon Wheel. Feeling depressed, she contacts her old mentor Professor Ramond Lunn.
Professor Lunn tells Epiphany that he believes in her, and asks her to help him in his research. As Epiphany takes the train to Istanbul to meet with the professor, she suddenly finds herself caught up in a web of mystery and murder. Things become personal for her when tragedy strikes and she finds out that the Dragon Wheel really exists. She then sets off on a quest to ensure that the Dragon Wheel does not fall into the wrong hands.
Secrets of the Dragon Wheel does use some story concepts and plots that are common in mystery murder games and may seem tired and overused. There is the mysterious train ride, an Eastern sage and a journey into the exotic Far East. However, it does so with an interesting angle and quirky sub-plots that manage to keep the story and the game fresh and entertaining. The story will keep you on your toes, and you definitely won't get bored with it.
A good story won't succeed without its supporting cast though, and this one is complemented by great art and sound. The artwork is detailed and crisp, and invokes the romantic feel of the early 1900's and the Orient Express (but in full color!). The objects and puzzles hidden throughout the scenes are blended into the background perfectly and don't stick out like sore thumbs. The music soundtrack is also perfect for this atmosphere. The voice acting is also pretty good, except for a couple of voices that seem slightly misplaced.
The gameplay in Secrets of the Dragon Wheel is what you'd come to expect from a good "next generation" hidden object game, where the focus isn't just on the traditional hidden object scenes where you have to look for a whole bunch of random items. This game is a combination of an adventure game and an interactive hidden object game, where you need to interact with the objects that you find. This may involve combining the objects to create larger items, using the objects as "keys" to progress in the game, and using them as tools to interact with other objects or parts of the scenery in order to solve a puzzle or obstacle.
The hidden object scenes and puzzles are blended seamlessly into the game, and don't appear suddenly or out of place. Instead, the story and cutscenes flow logically into these puzzles and create a smooth gaming experience. The hidden objects in these scenes aren't too small or hard to spot either, due to the detailed and gorgeous artwork. However, don't expect it to be too easy, as the game still provides a harder than average challenge.
There are also plenty of minigames and puzzles, providing variety and a break from the standard hidden object fare. Some of these minigames are the typical jigsaws and logic puzzles that normally appear in hidden object games. But there are some puzzles that are unique to this game and will stump you. There are also a few puzzles that appear to be an homage to some of the hit adventure puzzles from the early 90's, and work well with this story.
Secrets of the Dragon Wheel is a strong game with good gameplay, story and art. Any fan of the murder mystery and archaeology adventure genres will be happy with this game. It also lasts longer than most of the hidden object games out there. So join Epiphany O'day and assemble the puzzle pieces that will unlock the Secrets of the Dragon Wheel!
Rating: 4.5/5.0

How to Make a Gamer Feel as a Roman or Even a Greek in an Adventure Game
<!-- @page { size: 8.5in 11in; margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } -->
The basic aspect of ideal adventure games lies in their capability to entertain the user to another level of entertainment. The games that are available on large number of websites involved in the process of providing online games, are capable of providing entertainment, which is faceted with hallowed vibes. However, this is only possible when the creation of adventure games gets managed in a manner which handles all the feasible aspects of a perfect adventure game.
The primary regard for a game developer is the gamer, and, therefore, the preferences of the gamer should be known to the developers. The reason is quite simple and one will find sense in the process of knowing the desires of the gamer when a game that is made keeping these preferences, turns out to be the most played game on a website.
The next consideration is the simplicity of the game being made. A game, even if it has a good story along with advanced features will not be a preferable one, if the process of playing it turns out to be complex. One thing, that should be avoided and perhaps, this should the most important concern for game creators, is that the gamer should not have to understand or learn the features of the game in the form of being able to handle complex controls or reading a long and boring 'How to Play' game page or having to understand a complicated user interface with confusing icons and no help buttons.
Music is another important aspect of ideal adventure games due to many reasons. The human civilization has created folklores, legends and mythical stories into important elements of their existence and, therefore, the adventure games that are normally made have their story based on history, fantasy and stories. The music should, therefore, complement this aspect in adventure games by belonging to the age in which the story of the game is based (A feature prevalent in role playing games like Age of Empires having the music belonging to the age of Romans, Greeks and Babylonians for example).
Apart from these normally required features, online adventure games should also take the minimum amount of time to load and, therefore, the user should not be faced with the situation of having to glance at the tracking bar on the interface, which shows the percentage of the game being loaded with the percentage changing a bit too slowly.
The task of creating ideal adventure games, is, therefore, one which requires lots of patience and also immense amount of awareness about the needs of the user. Apart from this the development should also be one that has the features of efficiency and relevance with an effective mix of simplicity and complexities.

What is the difference between an Action game and an Adventure game?
Especially when they are two separate categories, not like Action/Adventure. i have seen games be categorized as one or the other, sometimes both. but what is the difference?
for example: there is a clear line between a FPS vs Fighting game, Racing vs RPG, etc. but i haven't been able to fine the clear line between an action game and an adventure game
in action games, everything's more focused on fighting and learning fighting skills for battles. adventure games are basically about a story you have to finish. but usually, adventure games are mixed with an action, where the battles serve as obstacles from solving the problem.
