Each topic is presented in a clear and organized manner that includes many examples of how the software is actually used on-the-job. Detailed Hands-on Exercises ensure that readers will gain practical knowledge of these tools by giving them the opportunity to apply what is presented in the book and to practice using computers to complete legal work. Cornick I should make a confession. There was a time (many years ago) when I believed that I could be successful in the law office without knowing much about computers. That was then. This is now. Let me state this as plainly as I can: a successful legal professional must know how to use a computer and the applications commonly used in a law office. With the advent of all things "e"--e-mail, e-discovery, e-filing, and so on--it is essential that you gain the skills this text seeks to impart. The 21st century is well under way and computer literacy is a basic competency in law offices. Using Computers in the Law Office, Sixth Edition, is designed to give you both theoretical understanding and practical experience with common law-office computer applications. These include both widely used applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and HotDocs; and programs specific to the law office, such as Tabs3, Abacus Law, Summation iBlaze, CaseMap, TimeMap, Westlaw, LexisNexis, and TrialDirector. Using Computers in the Law Office, Sixth Edition, is organized into nine chapters. The first chapter introduces you to computers with a discussion of the importance of computers to the legal field and a review of computer hardware and software terms. The next eight chapters represent the heart of the book. They cover word processing, spreadsheets, timekeeping and billing, case management/docker control, electronic discovery, litigation support, the Internet and electronic mail, computer-assisted research, and the electronic courthouse/automated courtroom and presentation graphics. With this new edition, the Hands-On-Exercises have been collected in a separate Workbook. This allows you to easily refer to the information contained in the main text while completing the exercises. Hands-On-Exercises are included for 16 different applications; there are almost 120 exercises in all. I hope that you will learn not only the specific uses of these programs, but that you should not doubt your abilities or fear the prospect of working with computers.

The Tuskegee Airmen Story (Skyward Series) The Tuskegee Airmen Story (Skyward Series)
List Price: $0.99

In the early days of World War II, the U.S. was having a hard time finding enough pilots for the military. One solution came from a small university called Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. African Americans were training there to become military pilots but the rest of the country was definitely not ready to accept any black pilot in the military. We try to capture the challenges and triumphs of these brave pilots who rose above discrimination to achieve historical status. The Tuskegee Airmen not only had to contend with the German pilots in World War II in the skies over Europe but also had to deal with racism, distrust and segregation at home. The Tuskegee Airmen were both feared and respected by the German pilots, who called them the "Schwartze Voglemenschen" or "Black Birdmen." They were revered by their fellow airmen as the "Black Red-tail Angels" because of their distinct red-tailed aircraft as well as their success in safely defending Allied bombers and destroying enemy targets. The 99th Fighter Squadron, led by Colonel Benjamin O. Davis, was later joined by the 100th, 301st and 302nd FS to form the legendary 332nd Fighter Group. The Group first flew P-40s over North Africa in ground attack missions as well as participating in the destruction and surrender of Pantelleria, near Sicily. The "Redtails," as the 332nd was nicknamed, were soon flying the P-51 Mustangs and flying escort missions deep into Germany. The 332nd was successful not only in aerial combat (including destroying several new Me 262 jets), but also on strafing missions against vehicles and railyards; the 332nd even sunk a German destroyer. Perhaps an even more important achievement, however, was delivering another lesson of the absurdity of racial inequality and discrimination that existed in the U.S. The Tuskegee airmen, highly-educated and exceptionally motivated men, secured a significant place in American and black history for bravery in service on and off the battlefield.

Abacus Software

Strictly speaking, Information Technology (IT) has been influencing society for thousands of years. Smoke signals, the abacus, writing, paper, pens and the printing press were all once considered the forefront of IT because those technologies were the latest and greatest in communication.

But today it is widely accepted that the forefront of IT lies in digital communications. As with all historical Information Technology developments, digital communication technology is revolutionary in terms of society, business, defence and culture.

But what is it about digital communications that sets it apart from all other previous technological advances? What is the role that this technology can play in modern society?

Firstly, IT acts as a facilitator. It is a medium that permits large volumes of information to be stored, processed or transferred at lightning speed. This means that there is more information at hand to make decisions, maintain relationships, monitor markets or follow movements.

The power of this notion should not be underestimated, it allows people to make decisions based on masses of up to date information. The military, educational institutions and large business have long understood the power of this notion but it has only been in the last ten years that mainstream society has also embraced the power of information for both social movements and small business.

Secondly, Information Technology is an enabler. Only a select minority of specialized companies in the world can claim that IT is their business. Most corporations and institutions use Information Technology to enable functions that drive their core business. This may include better communication between staff, suppliers or customers or it may include better asset management. Whatever the function, digital communication makes the storage, processing or transfer of information more efficient than ever before. But it is important to note that in essence it does not change core businesses, ideals, ethics or movements. It just enables them to function at a greater scale much more efficiently.

Lastly, Information Technology assumes the role of custodian. As data and information is amassed on just about any subject you care to imagine, massive stores of data are emerging ready to service any new requests. And therein lies the security paradox that modern Information Technology presents. One can argue that more available information makes our lives more efficient, safer and richer. Whilst the other argument is that the very same information that provides these benefits is also our achilles heal due to the security implications of unauthorized infiltration.

There is little doubt that the role of information technology is directed and constrained by the very technology that defines it. Today, that technology allows us to collect, manipulate and communicate masses of information. As a consequence, the role of IT revolves around improving the efficiency, capacity, speed or accuracy of any elements that can benefit from the functions that modern Information Technology systems provide.

The role of Information Technology in Business is often a misunderstood. Critical issues such as business continuity and disaster recovery should be reviewed by business regularly.

It-pathways.com promotes an ethical, intelligent and successful Information Technology industry for the greater good.

Synapse Communications – an Expert in Custom Software Development

What started up as a micro machine called ‘Abacus’, used entirely for calculating purposes, has today assumed a giant shape and is referred to as a ‘Computer’. Its usage in each industry that it caters to is immense. In fact, it would rather be strange to imagine a world without the device- such is its significance. But a Computer is not just about a monitor or a keyboard- it is not just a physical contraption or pure hardware- it transcends much beyond what is visible to the eyes. Software to Computer is what brain is to body. And that is precisely why custom software development is the talk of the town!

Custom Software development is, in simple words, a set of activities, resulting in the production of software that suits your needs and matches your style. Involving departments like- Marketing, Engineering, Research & Development and General administration or management, the development process concentrates primarily on research, development, modification, maintenance, re-engineering and reuse.

Each department has a specific function to perform and a specialized task to undertake with two factors that prevail as guiding force - One- software should be customized keeping in consideration customer requirement and satisfaction level and -Two- working as a separate entity but yet under an integrative objective. And this is exactly what Synapse Communications has to its credit- its past stamping authenticity to it all. Name it and they have done it - ERP, SCM, CRM, HRM, B2B or B2C portals and what not! And this is just one face. Adding new modules to already existing and functional applications to give them more usability and new features has been a long tradition with Synapse- and all this by keeping in sync with the business needs and uses.

Every software development process requires able strategic decisions, organization & conceptualization, creation & evaluation of marketing plan and proper commercialization. In light of such prerequisites, Synapse assures quality and that too in the most cost-effective manner. Software solutions with Synapse are not just regularity- but a priority. After all, Computer has indeed made ‘Communications’ easy!
